Is It Safe for Baby to Sit on Your Lap on the Plane?

It’s a common dilemma: Do I buy a baby his own seat on the plane, or not? Some moms would rather pay the extra money and have peace of mind that baby would be strapped into her car seat in a crash landing. Others say the small risk just isn’t worth the expense.

No, I don't think it's as safe as an FAA-approved seat. How can it be? If you're holding your baby and experience the kind of turbulence I recently had on a flight, you could very easily lose your grip on the baby and s/he could roll under the seat or worse.

Of course it is going to be safer for the baby to be strapped into a seat than to be loose sitting on mom's lap.
Not only is it safer to buy the extra seat, it makes more sense because babies come with extra travel gear and the extra seat gets you more carry on space.
Plus it's, imo,

You know, I wonder if it was just because he had a seat.
i think it's a catch 22, i see the benefits of having that extra seat because the quarters are so, so close but then again, i see the cost senseless esp if you hold the baby the entire time.
