My fourth child just *graduated* from kindy, but this is my first experience with it.

I'm also not big into 8th grade graduations.

Yeah, I'm not really *into* the 8th grade one, but I can at least, sort of, get it, lol.

I think they trivialize real graduations.

Yes!

Sounds over the top to me. Was this a public school? If it was mine we'd probably go with the flow, and maybe a nice dress or khaki's for a boy, no way would I buy a suit just to celebrate my son's moving from kindy to first grade.

I hate the whole little kids in graduation gowns the same way I hat little kids in beauty pageants. I do not think it cute in any way to dress up little kids like. Miniature adults in order to gawk at them. End of year parties and picnics are more age appropriate.

what's a "real" graduation?

i have friends from india who find it amusing that americans, general make such big deals about graduations after only 12 years of school.

if an academic career doesn't begin until first grade ( many/all? state laws institute this ) then there is that difference between k and 1st that some want to and do celebrate.

I had a kindergarten graduation. It kind of made sense, because the kindergarten was at a completely different school than the one where I went to elementary school. It makes no sense at all to me if the kindergarten is in the same school as all of the rest of the grades.
