I have seen it all. This Halloween I can't tell you how many people drove their children from house to house. Talk about lazy!

Lol, that reminds me of something I saw once. A woman had her dd out for a *bike ride* (I'm assuming). The little girl was riding her bike down the street and mom was DRIVING behind her!! I just thought that is the epitomy of laziness (not to mention kind of dangerous) to let your 5yo ride her bike while you drive...

Even in Florida? We used to do that when we lived in NY. Not because we were lazy but because it was COLD! Around here the kids all walked.

We took the car out too so the kids could warm up every once in a while. We also live in an area where there are very few homes on very large lots - so we drive into the more densely populated area of town. It was really cold out this Halloween - there were lots of cars out there this year.

Assuming it was not a cold, disability, or huge lots(houses far and few between) thing, Mom or Dad is missing some of the fun.

I get together with a group of neighbors and we take the kids, (and the dogs) trick or treating together. Of course we also break a few open container laws in the process :-0, but it is a good time, we usually end up at someone's house for pizza afterwards. WE make it as much an adult social event as a child's holiday.

If you're talking about the typical suburban neighborhood with houses on 1/4 -1/2 acre lots, then yep.

Around here, most of the the houses are really far apart, in the middle of the woods, up hills, with no lights, no sidewalks, and firelanes between "neigborhoods". Not to mention we got our first snow here on the 22nd (its cold!). It can be pretty greuling for a kid to score some candy here, so I wouldn't blame parents for driving.

Many parents take their children to the mall (its about 45 minutes away) to trick-or-treat instead. All the stores/carts give out candy. I think its much safer.

edited to add:

We only got 4 groups of kids on Friday, just to give you an idea.

I dunno about where you live but where I live street lights are virtually forbidden. I sure wouldn't let my kid run around from house to house in a neighborhood where the only lighting is from the gas light at the end of people's driveways.

Where I grew up? No problem. But around here? Car city, baby.
