Bridal shop:
Likes: the flexibility. I can arrange time off for dr. appts, volunteering in Dylan's school, watch grandchildren, when Dylan is sick, when my at home business is swamped. I love the people I work for/with. We are like a large family. The commute; the shop is only 4 miles from the house and it takes me only 15 minutes to get there.

Dislikes: I really don't like doing fittings. I much prefer to stay in the back and sew. And it's frustrating when I don't get things right the first time. Last minute deadlines. I have no subs to take over when I take time off.

Dressmaking business:
Likes: I'm my own boss. I can take off whenever I want. I have flexibility here as well. Because it's mostly contract work, I don't deal with clients face to face so no fittings. I love the historical clothing. I love the perks--getting linen and wool for free, tickets to the joust for free. Dylan gets to see how armour is made in a working shop. I don't have to cut out the garments.

Dislikes: the last minute deadlines. The fact that if I take time off, the work is hanging over my head. I have no subs to take over when I take time off. I have to make buttonholes and eyelets.

What I like about both jobs are the same and that goes for the dislikes as well. All in all I love both my jobs which is why I'm still trying to balance both of them at the same time. One of these days, I'm going to be forced to chose between them.

What things do you like about your job?
-close to home
-been working so long that I
1. Get to have time off first if I need to
2. Have a little more flexibility
-the people I work with
-my boss (as I had the one from HELL before her)

What things do you dislike about your job?
-that I am unable to work part time
-that there really is no place to "move up" (even though I am content right now)
-that the pay is not the greatest even after many years of service
-everything needs to be done yesterday and people don't realize what the job actually entails after many years of explaining-lol!!

I like that my jobs helps kids, I like that I have a similar schedule to my boys, I like being involved with the kids days and ok - the summers off are pretty good. I like the actual work I do with kids.

I don't like that I don't have any time to myself, I don't like that I am doing teacher work for ed tech pay, I don't like that I am required to drive kids and do not get paid milage - any "raise" in position goes into my gas tank. I don't like feeling like an island because noone knows what I do.
