Marissa Mayer Bans WAH

The youngest female Fortune 500 CEO ~ Yahoo's Marissa Mayer ~ banned WAH for all employees, including full-time customer service reps, those who WAH just 1 or 2 days/week, even those hired on the condition they WAH.

<<"Speed and quality are often sacrificed when we work from home," says the memo from HR director Jackie Rees..."We need to be one Yahoo!, and that starts with physically being together.>>

Apparently the fact that all of the "tools" can be at home, accessing the main offices remotely, is not enough.

Wouldn't we expect a new mom especially to "champion" combining work and family?  Some WAH employees say they get more done at home, due to a shorter "commute", fewer interuptions at the watercooler and cubicle.  For those who WAH part-time or f-t, are you as/more productive at home as in an office?  Will this backfire as the top talent can WAH for Yahoo and other companies?

PKA-I was speaking of what people do, the choices they make.

Rose, the government/schools expect that families will contribute a certain amount toward their children's college education. Financial aid awards include that "expected family contribution." Most awards are a combination of EFC, grants, and secured loans. I don't really care if people don't choose to pay for their kids' college. I just see a problem in them claiming they "can't afford" the EFC, when they demonstrably could, if they had made different financial choices.

Unless you are one of those people, then how can you speak for them and why they make the choices they do?

Bord-well then maybe you have been in contact with people who say they can't afford college when they (in your opinion) do. I have not. That is the difference.

So if you have not been in contact with people like that, Rose, what are you debating?

The difference is that bord is speaking of a past debate on college where one poster stated that they didn't have a college fund for their kids because they didn't have the extra cash, then went on to detail all the "stuff" they buy on a regular basis.  This stuff included some very expensive sounding stuff and vacations. I debate that many are familiar with on this board.

You, a poster who registered an hour ago hasn't give any basis to your comments other than "people" said it.

So you aren't in contact with these type of people, then what exactly are you debating?

Bord-Unless you personally know someone's financial situation throughly and do their monthly bills, you really do not know what they can and can not afford. There are many millionaires who claim they can't afford things either because they are cheap or think they just need to save all their money. Just like there are people who blow all their money and have nothing to show for it or able to send their kids to college. I am not even that close to my friends and family to know everything. lol
