Moms who know better than you

Kind of joking there.  But the other day I met a mom who was certain she knew which area schools were the best.  I told her my children are happily in public school, but upon entering middle school and/or upon entering 8th grade, if any of mine wants, then we'll take a tour of all of the schools in the area ~ private, several Catholic.  Not a Catholic, lol, she told me unequivocally that, yes, I needed to take my children on a tour of the local Catholic schools NOW because they are the best schools in the area.  Because of course her kids went there.   Her children graduated from high school long ago, but I never quite got my answer on what they were all doing now.  Wink

Anyway, the "conversation" (monologue?) continued until my friend saw me cornered.  Has this kind of thing happened to you ~ older mom telling you how to do it better?  How do you handle moms with children older than yours who are a little too liberal and pushy with their advices?  ....Have you ever been that mom?

<<I heard trumpets playing clear over here....did you hear them?>>

I hear a trumpet playing All. The. Time. (but he's quite good these days)

Actually, *my* favorite museum in StL isn't free. In fact, it's quite expensive. But worth it.

Yes, it is and there are a number of free museums, at least in the NY area...heck, one can even go to the Bronx Zoo free on Wednesdays.

Here are 60 that were free on Friday's in Boston

and I found them in every state that I looked in, I think thardy needs to add this to her list of research projects.

Me neither ~ as an adult, I have no desire to embarrass myself and play in yard in the snow.  That's for children.  And I wouldn't enjoy it.  I am laughing thinking of others here playing in snow piles.  {{shudder}}

When I was a child, of course if there was a leaf pile I did not disturb it and ruin it and make the person who raked it have to do it over again.  How selfish.  Instead, just like where you live, there were several beaches to choose from and sand castles to build, the ocean to swim in.  I think that's why PKA claims she does what she does.

Oh, gosh, I remember them.  And to add, the whole access to the calm beaches as well as the ocean.  Can't really enjoy that **freedom** in St. Louie, can one? Wink   I'd imagine as a child you went daily to the free or low-cost admission beaches and ocean access!  So much free fun that people in misery can't enjoy ~ boogie boarding, swimming, building sand castles, watching the sun set (and sun rise) over the water, wind surfing, boating, swimming lessons, etc., etc.

All free and family bonding experiences that poor miseryans can't enjoy.  Shame.  For them, swimming is tied to money so they must not enjoy it.

I'm just laughing at the pretense that the men in the family care a bit about some silly garden!  And now there's composting!!  Next there will be solar panels and solar water. Wink

That's your problem right there.  Unlike others, your teen has friends.

None of what you've written Savcal is correct.

Such a shame that you can't experience a little discomfort so that your kids can enjoy making memories in the snow with you.  I'd think a parent should sacrifice at least that much. &lt;&lt;sarCHASM disclaimer&gt;&gt;</p>

This has gone beyond what's free and what's not.  It has become about the PARENT hoping desperately to recapture a childhood she missed out on.  Caring adults actually let their own young children enjoy their childhoods, playing in the snow, sledding, building forts.

Savcal, hand on the Bible, are you really claiming you take regular jaunts with your children around your neighborhood?  Really, Savcal.  I mean really.

And again, you know you're not the only one privy to this fact.  I quit an entire career so that I could happily do, by now, over a decade's worth of things all day, everyday, for free with my young ones.  You did not.

Your kids are older than mine and I've still done many, many more free things with my own children than you did with yours.  So why the posturing?

I'm pretty sure Morty does, and I know for certain that I thank God everyday for the money I do have so that I don't have to drag a young son to things and on a public message board posture how it's such a bonding time for free for a family.  I couldn't live in Oklahoma or Missouri or anywhere where people can't make real money.  And then profess superiority because my kid ruined a pile of leaves the landscaper raked up.  I just couldn't.  Good for you though.
