Moms who know better than you

Kind of joking there.  But the other day I met a mom who was certain she knew which area schools were the best.  I told her my children are happily in public school, but upon entering middle school and/or upon entering 8th grade, if any of mine wants, then we'll take a tour of all of the schools in the area ~ private, several Catholic.  Not a Catholic, lol, she told me unequivocally that, yes, I needed to take my children on a tour of the local Catholic schools NOW because they are the best schools in the area.  Because of course her kids went there.   Her children graduated from high school long ago, but I never quite got my answer on what they were all doing now.  Wink

Anyway, the "conversation" (monologue?) continued until my friend saw me cornered.  Has this kind of thing happened to you ~ older mom telling you how to do it better?  How do you handle moms with children older than yours who are a little too liberal and pushy with their advices?  ....Have you ever been that mom?

<<I know the definition, thanks. Just wondering what you would consider a park. We have a bunch of ones that we have taken the kids to, to go on the swings, if that is what you mean. There is only one that we could walk to.>>

No, I specifically said a walk in my comments. I said (and you quoted even!) close to a park to go walking.

Not really as the parks I have talked about are playgrounds for kids or places where they play sports. Not sure why I would just walk around them. I have my neighborhood if I wanted to walk or the track nearby. Other than that, I would have to go and drive to find something with "scenary" (if that is what you are speaking of a "park").

<<I gave examples and again, most things are not free and do require some money attached to it, even if it is for gas or a snack. Here is another example, feeding the ducks. While it won't cost much in gas and bread to feed the ducks, you are still spending money. >>

I haven't seen any examples of your "free" memories, please post them again.

You can go back and read my posts. You must have passed them by.

If you truly believe that there is a cost associated to everything, why did you object to my question about your memories are tied to money, you have certainly proved that over and over and over again here.

Because memories are not "tied" to money but MANY, if not MOST memories REQUIRE money (at one time or another).

Again, try answering the question that I asked, not ducks...not swings...but the question that I actually asked.  How would it cost money for you to go for a walk in the park, just a walk...not your diversion to icecream or ducks but a walk in the park?

Why do you like to make up things?  That is so odd...

What did I make up?

You asked for examples where you disagreed with every single one, you haven't provided any of your own...so as I originally stated, your memories are tied to money.

Homecoming to watch hours of football (none of my kids are even allowed to play that inherently dangerous sport) which my kids do not enjoy watching, just so DH could enjoy watching a game and so we could spend 18 minutes watching the oldest kid play in the marching band is neither fun nor a bonding family experience.  And as I've said, as a taxpayer, it's certainly not free!!

Kids don't ever remember as fond memories the times money is coughed up and spent at Mickey Mouse ear type excursions.

Oh no, morty knocked that one too...she needs to pay for bags for those leaves.  A family can't have fun raking and playing in the leaves according to morty as a free activity, it costs money don't you know.  Her memories are tied to money.

I loved playing in the leaves as a kid, so did mine, lol.  I'm sorry that your and mortys kids are missing out on leaf piles.

I have but you insist on not going to look for them. Take a couple of minutes and look. You will find them. I have said them a few times in this thread.

Read...the...posts.  {{snort!}}  You're so uppity from the East Coast and all, of course you don't enjoy a family activity unless it 1.) costs money and 2.) costs lots of money.

*Sarcasm alert*

Morty and her family could do every single one of the examples given by others. At absolutely no cost.  Right in their own neighborhood. And they all would enjoy every minute. Today.
