1. Will you be shopping on Black Friday or Cyber Monday?

2. "5 months of bills...." as the song says. Do you have a budget for the holidays or do you have "5 months of bills..."?

3. What is one food that most people make for Thanksgiving that you do not like?

4. Do you dress up for Thanksgiving?

So? Is there anything wrong with the parent getting his or her way? And, if the family all likes the same music, who are you to say that they do not ALWAYS agree?

Well Fowl, as you know, we don't watch a lot of TV. But when the kids were 8 and 4, we lived in a rented flat for awhile that came with two TVs and a VHS library. My older one discovered the Simpsons and wanted to watch them. I didn't see anything wrong with them so let the kid watch until he decided Bart Simpson was the ultimate in cool and started imitating Bart's table manners. When this went on after several days, we decided to curtail the Simpsons until the kid was older and more discriminating. I do not think it unusual that children imitate and copy and. Learn from what they see on TV. That is one reason advertisers spend gazillions of dollarstrying to influence children toward particular products. I thought that was common knowledge.

Can you give a few examples of things that you think parents should not have to give up for their kids?

My kids are abnormal too. They all love Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me, Science Friday, This American Life on NPR and dl to their iPods each week. We listen to Morning Edition on the way to school. They are not so fond of Tom Ashbrook's Talk of the Nation.

One thing even my youngest knows, is that there is a difference between punditry, news analysis and editorials, satire, and journalism. The are well equiped to form their own opinions about events and issues of the day.

we have always managed to agree on what music to listen to, together, as a family. I don't know why you find that hard t believe. Maybe because you and your kids don't have similar musical taste? Being able to enjoy music together has really been such a positive, fun, bonding part of our lives.

In my opinion, you are doing something right, Chestnut. One thing I enjoy about my kids s that both my kids have a nose for BS as well as finely-honed senses of irony.

For me, it's more about what is acceptable in my home.
