1. Will you be shopping on Black Friday or Cyber Monday?

2. "5 months of bills...." as the song says. Do you have a budget for the holidays or do you have "5 months of bills..."?

3. What is one food that most people make for Thanksgiving that you do not like?

4. Do you dress up for Thanksgiving?

I have to say allowing children to do these kinds of grownup things early is infinitely more difficult that just telling them to go play with their toys. Baking cookies with the help of a 2 or 3 year old takes much longer and is much messier than just doing it yourself. The payoff, of course, is that when the kid is 6 or 7 he might be able to do the cookies all by himself. If the kid shows no interest in baking, I can't see forcing him to do so. My kids, though, love helping DH and me with everything. "I can do it myself" and "I want to help" are two phrases that we hear all the time in our household. Barring dangerous activities, I can't see always telling my kids no when they want to help with grownup things. Heck, even the 2 year old "helped" us move furniture around last week.

It's interesting. My nephew watches a lot of kids' tv shows on cable with commercials. He has a definite case of the "I wants" this Christmas-- basically everything he sees advertised. My kids watch kids' shows on Netflix or dvd. They have no idea what the latest toys and gadgets are. They have definitely opinions about what they want for Christmas (well, at least the 4 yo does), but their wants are mostly based on what they can think up themselves.

In my experience, children LOVE "helping" adults and gain a great deal of satisfaction out of accomplishing tasks.

One of my best gifts ever is a painting that I saw first in a frame shop when I was getting some things framed one November for later gift giving.

no, that was never said. my older two are still into AG dolls, accessories, breyer horses and stuff, i suppose i'm supposed to deny them that because by this age, they should be more interested in, what, music mom and dad are heavily influencing or something? LOL.
