1. How long is/was your child's school day (minus any after school activities)?

2. Who are you rooting for in the Superbowl?

3. What did you have for breakfast today?

Their reasoning behind it is that blowing into an instrument rises the heart rate enough to be aerobic exercise.  Also because of marching band for at least part of the year.

It provides more indepth instruction time.  Much like college.

So many kids are in sports or other activities that keep them active that requiring PE wouuld be a waste for many, taking away from their opporutnity for more advanced subjects.

DS was in band last year (he actually played a string instrument), the time alotted during the day for that practice was lunch/recess not specials. There are so many hours of PE schools are required by law to have in their schools, those credits must be satisfied for graduation too.

I would think it is easier for them to remember things if they continued the same subject throughout the year.

I guess it would if they are only providing 4 classes per semester. I think they way we structure it, is the best for all students.

Marching band should MORE than fulfill the PE requirement. They march, being physically active, for 2 hours a day all fall semester, and three weeks for 5 hours a day. It's very physically demaninding. Even more so for the colorguard.
