Favorite female artist?Gonna have to go with Bonnie Raitt on this one.
Favorite male artist? --  This one is tougher, although I think I'll stick with Lyle Lovett.
Favorite group/band? -- Again, tough. All three of these answers change with my mood, stage in life, etc.   But Bonnie and Lyle are always at the top of the l ist.  For group/band, right now I'd have to say Mumford & Sons (I'm still on a high from their concert/tour).
Have you seen any of the above live? -- All, yes.  Lyle three times.

In school...did you play an instrument?   -- Yes
If so, what?, Clarinet
Do any of your kids play an instrument? The Girl plays clarinet, but is also in the colorguard. She much prefers guard and is better at it than she is the clarinet. The Boy plays trumpet and is very good.
Did they follow your lead? -- somewhat

Are you, or any of your family members a musician, either as a way of life, or as a hobby?
Tell us about it!  :) -- My entire family is musical - I'm the least musical out of them all.  My sister is a music therapist and also teaches a course and private lessons at a community college.  My brothers both play guitar (lead and bass) and keyboard and have been in various bands over the years. The youngest one is currently playing very reguarly with a local band that just released their second album - they've been busy with gigs 2-3x a week for the past 6 months or so.  My parents both played piano and guitar - never officially in a band but have done a lot of just jammin' with friends, etc.  My musical role in the family is to appreciate the music, lol.

Favorite female artist? Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks, Carrie Underwood, Alicia Keys, Adele
Favorite male artist? Jimmy Buffett, Elton John, Bob Marley, Justin Timberlake, Blake Shelton
Favorite group/band? Train, Maroon 5, Toots & The Maytals, Beach Boys, Green Day

Sooo many...I really can't narrow it down to one, or even five, of each. I've just named the first five that came to mind.

Have you seen any of the above live? I've seen many favorites live. The ones I listed above in italics are the ones I've seen live.

In school...did you play an instrument?  Yes
If so, what? Flute, piccolo.
Do any of your kids play an instrument? Too young still, but my son shows proficiency with percussion. I guess most boys like banging on things. lol  My daughter sings and sings and sings. Anything and everything.
Did they follow your lead? They follow their own lead.

Are you, or any of your family members a musician, either as a way of life, or as a hobby?

My brother has been in bands since he was 15 (he is in his late 40s now), usually as a drummer but as he's gotten older he's been the lead vocalist and guitarist for a few of them. He's the drummer in the band he is in. Not for a living, but it's part of his life and he does make a few bucks. I play a decent guitar and even better drums, but I've never been part of a band.

Favorite male artist? ditto
Favorite group/band? ditto
Have you seen any of the above live? The last band I saw live was REM and it was seriously disappointing. They might as well have been robots or holograms.

In school...did you play an instrument? Yes, alto recorder.

Are you, or any of your family members a musician, either as a way of life, or as a hobby? My dd plays various instruments. My brother played drums in a semi-pro band for several years.

Favorite group/band? Steely Dan

In school...did you play an instrument?  Not in school, but took 10+ years of lessons
If so, what? Piano
Do any of your kids play an instrument? Yes, youngest son plays tenor and alto sax, clarinet, and acustic, lead and base guitar.
Did they follow your lead? Not at all, he has talent.

Are you, or any of your family members a musician, either as a way of life, or as a hobby?
Tell us about it!  :) My ex was a itinerent and studio base player in NYC when we were married, so I knew a lot about the club scene in the 80s. My 14yo son is part of a band and has actually made a few dollars in some of his gigs.

Favorite female artist? Don't really have a favorite but I do like KT Tunstall.
Favorite male artist? Guy Fishman (cellist) and I still love Bob Marley. Always will.
Favorite group/band? Can't think of any one in particular--I like a lot of Christian bands (Needtobreathe, Jars of Clay, etc.)
Have you seen any of the above live? Yep, Guy Fishman, many times

In school...did you play an instrument?  Alto recorder. Doesn't everybody? Also took piano but quit bcs my younger brother was waaaay better than I was, so naturally I became horribly disillusioned and bitter ;)
Do any of your kids play an instrument?  Son plays trumpet and trombone. Daughter sings and plays piano. She also plays the clarinet but hates it.
Did they follow your lead? No, fortunately, they stuck with it!

Are you, or any of your family members a musician, either as a way of life, or as a hobby?  My daughter has played professionally, but I don't think she's considering this as a career. She is taking a lot of music in college, so who knows? Right now, she vacillates between wanting to be secretary of state or...a history professor :)

My brother Bill, who whupped me in piano, has played in several bands (guitar and piano) and made actual money, but he now makes his living as a CPA/CFP.

My husband has perfect pitch, but only plays the recorder. He also abandoned the clarinet in high school.

Cannot think of a famale one.

Favorite male singer is Bob Seger

Favorite group is Styx

Saw both in concert, Seger twice

I played trumpet in band from 6-10th grade.  DD1 also played trumpet, in fact she played my trumpet,  from 6-9th.  DD3 played Sax 6-8th.

No muscians in the family. DH plays a bit of guitar but for fun and not of muscian quality.

It was the early 80s; you were probably there later. Was your ex a musician too? We lived on W 11th in the tallest, thinist, windowless apt. Between the apt and hanging out at the clubs, I felt like a vampire, though I did attend Rutgers occasionally during the daytime.
