What would you find it odd to NOT know about your neighbors/neighborhood? For example, I would find it odd to not know the name of your next door neighbor, and I would find it odd to not know what school district your neighborhood is zoned to.
I live in a neighborhood that was mostly built in the late 1960s and early 1970s. When we moved in, we were among the first "second owners," that is people who were not the original owners of the house. Most of our neighbors were in their early 70s. We've had a lot more new families with younger children move in in the last decade, but there are still a lot of people who are original owners. And many of them, now in their 80s, are not aware until they go to sell that the area has been redistricted, and that the junior high and high school their kids went to is not the one that people in the neighborhood now go to.
No, it is all one school district but often when people are listing their houses they will put the specific schools the children go to on the flyers because some schools are considered more desirable than others.

The nice folks who live directly across the street from me have been there for 8 years now, and I just found out they have grown children.
