Let's talk about gifts.
I haven't gotten Christmas gifts in years (one of the downsides of being an "only" parent) but when I did, I don't think I ever had to do that.
"Anyone else end up giving away half of what you get for Christmas?"
LOL, not really, but then I got a cardigan and a book from my mom this year. That was it, my total "loot." We did also get a bottle of champagne rom a business acquaintance, but we will most likely drink that rather than give it away.
Hmm my girfts from co-workers were gift cards--so those are useful.
“Clearly," said Arthur,"you're an idiot- but you're our kind of idiot. Come on.” ― Markus Zusak, The Book Thief
I used to get those sort of courtesy gifts, back when I was working a "straight" job, and lived in a place where even fairly casual friends would feel compelled to get you something for Christmas. It does get sort of annoying, IMHO. It seems like such a waste, and it becomes stressful, to me anyway, having to have reciprocal junk on hand and trying to predict how much junk you will need etc.
