i appreciated her perspective. I have long thought this yearly pink-washing to be silly at best, distracting from the larger cause at worst.

Agreed. Like the lady with the video, she also points out that the subjects that still need more public awareness are the difficult ones - young women, metastatic disease etc. Besides I thought she was brave to post that picture at the end.

Thanks, Rolls for the reminder. Pink is about marketing spin, not about the curing the devastating disease.

It took a sec or two just to find that link..  shock affect much?

I like that a portion of my Vera Bradley purchases go to the breast cancer cause too.  It must take a lot of effort to find these links mops...  Maybe not..

I don't think it's shock value - I think it's reality.

And the links aren't hard to find. It appeared in my FB feed numerous times, as well as on other sites I visit.  And if one is a cancer survivor, similar links could possibly become a part of one's normal life.

"shock effect much?" --------- I am really not sure what you mean. It is a young woman sharing her experience of having cancer. She looks a lot better than most people do going through treatment. Her point is that cancer is not a bunch of pink balloons. As Savcal said, this link was shared widely across the web, because it is October and because the blogger is eloquent.

Jams, here is a video that I think many people would find slightly shocking. I did not "find" it. Again it was posted on some group that I follow, again because it is October and there is a lot of debate about the pink ribbon etc. It is meant to make people think, which is what real awareness is about, don't you think? http://animoto.com/play/57rWJ5NH4CaqxOcFFyq08w
