OMG-about those holiday parties

Okay as everyone knows I work weekends in a restaurant. Every weekend this month we have the restaurant closed for private holiday parties. Its the *white collar* set for the most part, doctors, lawyers, engineers, and a few blue collar high end construction companies thrown in.

Last night there was a sit down dinner for 50. Okay, first of all-the attire. There were women and men in jeans, carharts, and tennis shoes. Then there were women in skimpy cocktail dresses more appropriate for a New Years eve shindig. Very few people were dressed in what one would consider appropriate for a work party-nice slacks and tie for the men, pretty dress or slacks for the women.

Second of all-the drinking. MOST of the people were okay but man they were SWILLING down the free wine, lol. One guy in particular we started slipping him non alcoholic wine because he got hammered within the first hour. He was kind of staggering from table to table by the end of the evening. A few others werent in much better shape. I'm not too sure about free drinks at parties....

And lastly, there was the poor couple with the 8mo baby who had to leave before the entree was served (we boxed it up for them). Baby was with grandma for the 1st time and grandma called 4 times because baby wouldnt stop screaming. They finally decided to just bag it and head home.

No debate or question, but I was kind of laughing to myself because it just seemed to cover EVERY spectrum of the things we've been discussing this week.

Now I'm off to work again. Tonights party is a bunch of lawyers who do a chinese auction every year and they stay for EVER....sigh. Oh well. They dont drink much though, lol!

We went to a party last night at a co-worker's home. He has it every year, but it was the first for us. His wife works at Brown-Forman (they own Jack Daniels, Southern Comfort, Woodford Reserve, Dom Peringon, Fetzer, Lennox Chrystal, but mostly alcohol stuff.)

They had different themed rooms. The formal living room had Hot apple cider and this French Vanilla Liquer. Together they make a drink called Hot Apple Pie...Yummy!!!

The Formal Dining rooms was the Wine Room, with four different wines, cheese, crackers, etc.

The Kitchen was the Martini bar where you could do Apple and some other type of Red Martini's. It had Chips and queso, bean dip, etc.

The family room had Rum Punch and Jerk pork sandwiches.

The basement had two rooms...One with pool table and darts and a full bar (sodas included) and Jack Daniels Wings.

The other room was the Southern Room. They had Southern Comfort and this new drink called Southern Twist. I was an official Tasting for Brown Forman so they had these cute glasses and stirs, etc. That stuff is good. They had Southern Comfort meatballs down there.

The Garage had beer and the Kareoke Machine with lights and sound system.

We had a blast!!! I drank but didn't get drunk. (A little tipsy at one point, but I avoided the drinks for a while until I got over it.) I sang Kareoke for the first time...Fun.

It was much better than an official Office Party. I haven't had that much fun at an adult party in a long time.

LOL. We had our black-tie party last night. It turned out to be pretty fun. I decided at the last minute that I hated my wine-colored dress, so I drove through a blizzard to Lord & Taylor and bought the most beautiful red sweater, very simply cut with a V-neckline, and red sequins on the neckline and cuffs, and a long, swishy, floor-length black ballgowny kind of skirt. It looked smashing, I have to say -- relaxed yet festive. Somehow the right outfit makes the party for me. Very superficial, probably.

Anyway, what was funny about it was how dressed up everyone was, and what an expensive, elegant party it was, until right after dinner, that is. Then they introduced a 6'7" Cher impersonator, wearing a black thong leather teddy and fishnet stockings, complete with tattoos on her behind. She was a riot. They also had go-go dancers and a drink luge, which is this ice sculpture that you pour drinks through and then get them at the bottom (I guess you're supposed to let the drinks pour right into your mouth, but the hotel had a rule about using glasses). They also had a dj. It's an incredibly buttoned-up company, but they had quite a party.

DH and I left at around 10:30 because of the blizzard, and also because I don't really know these people and they were all getting really drunk and hanging all over each other. Not my scene, so much -- I don't get drunk, ever. But I'm glad we went, and we did have a good time.

Congratulations! I'm so happy to hear it. I just heard the good news and popped back over, just in case you were still checking in.
