I've had a bikini wax and it's time again before the summer. One of my closest friends does it as she's a hairdresser and works in a salon that does it. You don't take your clothes off (at least I never have). I strip to my undies and then just pull it aside so she can wax the area. You can get ingrown hairs and irritation, but last year I read in a magazine what to do and it really does help. There are two medications that help prevent redness and ingrown hairs: salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. These two ingredients are found in acne treatment products. I buy the clearasil wipes and then I buy an acne topical cream (read the labels on both to make sure you're getting those two medications). I wash the area then wipe it with the wipes and then slather on some of the topical cream. Redness and irritation are gone in a day or so and I haven't had a problem with ingrown hairs since I've been using this method of cleaning the area.

Good luck. And yes, it does hurt. ;-)

I not only had a bikini wax, I had a brazillian. Means it's ALL gone. Hurt like hell and I got a lot of ingrowns. I think it depends on your hair type (mine is thick and coarse) and the amt. You have to let it grow (at least an inch long) and you will be naked and the waxer may as well have a speculum and give you an exam while you're there because it's EXTREMELY intimate.

Rub lydocaine lotion on a 1/2 hour before you go and it will ease the pain. Good luck!

ps: it was weird. Especially when the waxer said... "see? it looks cute!" Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!

Cute? LOL! That's not a word I would use to describe "it." LOL! Never a Brazilian wax for me. A bikini wax is intimate enough, and that's with one of my best friends doing it! LOL!

Never done the wax, but I shave most everything down there daily. ....not like it gets a lot of traffic or anything, but I much prefer it.

I know women who do wax regularly and those who've had it done once and swear never again....and those who swear they'll NEVER do it....seems pretty evenly mixed among all three, so it's totally a personal preference thing.

I have fair skin too and never had a problem. It's definitely best to get a recommendation of a good waxer from a friend, rather than going in with someone you don't know. Also, I don't know your position on thongs, but thongs or skimpy bikinis for a day or 2 help minimize irritation afterwards.

Never had one. I simply keep it clean shaven via electric razor. No stubble, no mess, no pain and no itching.

Choose your friends by their character and your socks by their color.  Choosing your socks by their character makes no sense and choosing your friends by their color is unthinkable.
