OT--Red and yellow?

So I painted DS's playroom tonight. Yellow. It's pretty bright--think the color of pure sunshine. It's right next to our red dining room (of which only the top of the walls are red and it's a very deep bluish red, almost cranberry--the wainscotting and mouldings are white) and DH walked in and said, "Hey--ketchup and mustard!" He HATES it, but isn't around enough to care. I'm not sure yet--DS picked the color out of the samples I picked (he picked it twice, I double checked w/him).

So I'm curious--red and yellow? Match or clash?

PS--I'll get around to posting a pic eventually on the web page, but w/no digital camera, that's a PITA...

Depends on if you cross-referenance the accessories.

My living room is yellow and the dining room is red. There is an archway connecting them and it has taken me a while to get use to it. I thought of McDonalds when I first saw it.

I have gotten tons of compliments on it.

If they're the right shades, I think red and yellow can complement each other quite nicely. I have a red family room, with most of the rest of the first floor painted yellow. Our yellow is more of a straw color, so it's probably not as bright as yours. We get tons of compliments on it, and I think it looks great. It helps too if you can tie it together with artwork or fabric (draperies, furniture, etc.) Anyway, sounds pretty to me. I like lots of color.

My ds' room IS red and yellow! Yellow walls with a dark *brick* red accent. I got him some accessories from Target (cant remember the theme name) that are airplane stuff and took the red shade from them. It looks, if I do say so myself, very nice!!

Oh and my living room is a dark mustard gold color and my dining room is a dark red/orange color. So I obviously like the combo, LOL

I know the airplane stuff--I bought the car/truck set when they clearanced it out for DS's future big boy bed!

It's growing on me. I think once I get some artwork (I'm going to frame DS's pictures) up in some cool frames (I'm thinking red like Misty suggested) and vast expanse of wall is broken up, it will be better. And of course, the paint highlighted my desperate need for window treatments...

Always something! ;)

I've gotten so good at it, I knocked out our 14 X 13 (w/10 ft" ceilings) playroom in 3 hrs last night (plus an hour for taping and cleaning up). Our downstairs is finished now (dark khaki (RL cotswalt breeches) in family room, light khaki (RL parchment) in foyer, kitchen & breakfast room, cranberry and white dining room, silvery green powder room, and now yellow playroom)--the upstairs is another story. I'm thinking I'm going to continue the RL parchement up the stairs and into the hall and perhaps do the master bedroom in the cotswalt breeches...I'm definitely doing DS's room in blue (to match his bedding, probably light on top and dark on bottom w/a red or orange stripe to separate) when he moves into a big boy bed later this year. Our guest room is already dark sage ($5 gallon of oops paint from Home Depot) and I'm holding off on the nursery (current office) until I get pg again. If it's a if it's a girl, I'm doing pink--boy--I'm not sure. The only room that I don't have a clue on is ours, although the khaki is a start.

DH is going to kill me...;)

I don't think so...I had never bought the stuff either, but that's what the previous homeowners used. If I decide to carry it upstairs, I'll probably paint an index card w/the stuff and have it color matched in Behr or Am. Traditions--I'm too tight to spring for designer paint!

My best friend is an interior designer, so she usually approves my color choices...but she's been so busy w/work lately, she didn't approve this one. It's really growing on me though and my sister was over yesterday and she LOVES it...I think I just need some accessories.

And my DH wishes Trading Spaces would just go off the air already...not to mention that he loathes my HGTV obsession. He usually just sighs and says, "Quit watching those d*mn shows!"
