My oldest DD will turn 15 in August, She is ready to start working for pay and she has expressed interest in doing something at the local grocery store (maybe a bagger?).

I should add that I didn't have a real, taxed job until I was 17.. I remember a neighbor that worked in retail and they needed evening help in one of their departments, My hours were identical to hers and we used to drive there together and come home together....

I considered being a nanny after high school... Loved kids and my first ever trip to Hilton Head was with cousins whose small children I babysat.

Edited to add, Last year was the first time I really wanted my kids in a structured and more formal job setting, Oldest DD wanted nothing to do with "daycare"..

One of mine had a paper route from the time he was ten until they discontinued the youth carrier program three years later.

I started at age 13, but that's because my family owned a business with great jobs/hours for a kid.

The Girl (15.5) has not started working for pay. She'd like to, but there are quite a few barriers. Transportation for instance - I really can't drive her to/from work at all hours of the day, so until she has her license and a car (August), she really can't work. Her band schedule is very intense and leaves her little time to work - what time she does have needs to be used for homework and some downtime. And, in the summer, when there isn't band or homework, she's with her dad.

So, not yet ... hopefully soon.

Does your DS sell stuff on ebay?

My older two kids have just recently discovered that site and love browsing it for stuff they would normally not see in stores, Lol.. I have the account there tho.

I am not a big proponent of kids having jobs during the school year...

Older dd had a babysitting job at 14.
