bad mommy and daddy report tonight..we were channel surfing and dh decides to announce that we're going to watch the abc movie sixth sense. i'm saying no way and the oldest two, ages 6 and almost 8, are all for it because it's *scaaaaaary*. at every commercial i'm saying it's just make believe it's just make believe and even encouraged a channel change. we watched the entire movie and when it was time to go to bed, my oldest asked a genuine question: what do you do if (big emphasis on *if*) things pop out of the television mom? i reminded her that it was only a movie and that would never happen. she was certain i was wrong and kept asking "but what *if*...." i said it wouldn't happen and included other shows that wouldn't pop out either like her favorites spongebob and lizzie mcguire.

i feel so bad that these kids watched this movie. are there limits on programming at your home and would you have handled the scenario the same way with children at this age? tia for any btdt or advice.

m3t who can't wait til the school year starts so we can get back into a routine of 8P bedtime.

>>Because the tradition didn't go both ways? His church respected your beliefs and allowed you to take communion but your church did not give him that same res
huh? my dh doesn't find it disrespectful at all. he doesn't feel unworthy nor disrespected there....and the point where you say that "it doesn't go both ways.." speaks volumes doesn't it? i mean why on earth are we a democracy of freedom..an america that allows different denominations et al.

it's just too bad only certain churches can be respected here, not all.

well considering your post i was replying to was some press coverage about an archbishop denying communion....i thought you may find it interesting to know that the diocese of boston continued to allow jk communion despite his political views hence my words "it goes both ways".

Let's start with your comment again.

<<<<i found it mighty neat that i could receive the bread and wine (or was it grape juice?) at his church.......i guess i have a difficult time understanding why you can't share the same respect about our church tradition.>>

You thought it was mighty neat that you could receive communion in your dh's church, correct?

nope....again that makes it sound selfish. catholic tradition is just that. other denominations have their tradition too. and if you think that catholics exclude (you) then you are looking at it the wrong way.

Yes it was my understanding that many priests went against the order and gave communion anyway to those who voted against the church.

Maybe in some people's minds, we are disrespecting a certain church because we don't agree with what it does?

nope.

lutherans are an entirely different denomination than catholics a/w their own traditions. my neighbor (studying to become a minister) who just moved to STL was born catholic and converted.

How else could someone look at it, except that God's table is only open to certain people?
