Our weird house painter--need advice

Last summer, we hired a guy to paint our house. He was in the middle of the price quotes we received, and we chose him because he specializes in antique houses and does an outstanding job with them. We've seen his work--his paint jobs last years longer than others

1. I'd do 1. and I'd get him to sign something that said, the job was completed and he sustained no injuries while here.

And the next painter I hired would have to give me his liability insurance info so I could check it out.

Yikes! And Murphy Brown thought *she* had issues with her house painter! ;)

That wasn't a deposit either.

We paid him 1/4 up front/deposit. He came, tore out the old stuff, framed in the new.

Who is Eldon and why are you ironing a kitten? And were you really born in 10/63? If so, I am 8 months older than you are; therefore you must answer my questions.

apparently he was, actually, Eldin, but who could have known that from the show? LOL

Yeah, I'm an idiot. It didn't even occur to me to ask about liability insurance. I just assume that if the person is competent at his/her job, then all the other areas are covered. I mean, who wouldn't have all the proper insurance? Guess I found out!

Oh my, so many questions...

Eldon (or Eldin) was Murphy Brown's painter who was working in her house for the entirety of the show.

I wouldn't call you an idiot; I doubt I'd have thought to ask to begin with either. It's just one of those things you don't think of until you end up with a whack for a contractor :)

I would definately take him to court. Glad you were able to get it fixed.
Did you get any references on the first guy?

Really? There are sooo many stories out there about people who don't finish jobs, are not insured. I always get references first and have used people who are family of friends or friends of family.
