2. Did/do you practice attachment parenting or any other parenting philosophy with a formal name?

3. At what age did or would you (and your spouse, if applicable) leave your child(ren) overnight?

4. Do/did your children get an allowance? Beginning at what age, and how much?

5. How old were/will your children be when you allow them to play in their rooms or elsewhere in your house/yard for short periods unsupervised?

6. At what age did your children sleep through the night regularly?

There is no "overall point" to this, I'm just curious.

Thank God there's no score, since many of these will be "beats me"; I'm sure I don't remember everything.

<<1. At what age did your child(ren) try solid foods? At what age were they eating most types of solids? >>

We began introducing veggies, one a week, at 6 months, then fruit, then meats...meats slower than the others because he really didn't care for any meats except liver (w/onions), if you can imagine. I only remember this because I wrote it in the baby book, which I unearthed this week painting my bedroom.

<<2. Did/do you practice attachment parenting or any other parenting philosophy with a formal name? >>

No, although my parenting style closely resembled attachment parenting, with some glaring exceptions, given I was active duty military with mandatory field duty when my son was an infant. But attachment parenting wasn't really coined as a phrase until Dr. Sears wrote his first book in 1990 (or at least the early 90s, maybe late 80s) and John was born in 1982, so it was just coincidence. I just raised him like my parents and grandparents raised me, with only slight modifications; Dr. Sears and my Gram would have seen eye to eye on many parenting issues.

<<3. At what age did or would you (and your spouse, if applicable) leave your child(ren) overnight? >>

Here's where I earn my evil Mom award. 6 months...for two weeks. My first field duty after John was born.

<<4. Do/did your children get an allowance? Beginning at what age, and how much? >>

Yes. Beats me, and beats me. A dollar? I really don't know. At some point it was $5 and then $10 but that was all through his dad, so I have no real idea.

<<5. How old were/will your children be when you allow them to play in their rooms or elsewhere in your house/yard for short periods unsupervised? >>

His room? any age, but practically speaking, he was probably older than 18 months before showing any interest in playing someplace I wasn't. Outside? Well, technically, 3 years, but he had to stay on the porch where I could see him from inside the apartment. Not til we moved to the condo was he allowed to play outside where I couldn't see him; he was 6 when we settled on the condo.

<<6. At what age did your children sleep through the night regularly? >>

It *would* beat me, but I have the baby book in my lap and it says 4 weeks. But with my experience at the Ezzo Debate Board, I should qualify my answer and say that by "through the night regularly" I translate to a stretch of time of about 5 or 6 hours. Longer than that? Beats me.

You mean you didn't keep track of first milestones in a baby scrapebook? Shame, shame on you. :-)

I'm a horrible, horrible person *and* I let my son's stepmom have a voice in issues that involved her and his dad paying for things over and above support. Don't I suck? ;)

Solid foods. Hmm. Are you trying to figure out if your boys are normal?

I don't know. We have 4 and they all started rice cereal w/in the first 3 months. By 6 mos they were eating everyting I spooned into their mouths. By one year they all categorically refused to eat anyting I offered them. This trend continued until they were about 13. Somehow, they survived and even grew to all average the 65th percentile on the ped's growth chart. They must have been surviving on school food and dirt.

Attachment parenting? There was no such thing with my first and I just continued with what worked when we had our other 3.

When did we leave them overnight? We haven't.

Do they get an allowance? Yes. They all started at age 5. They have to pick up after themselves, clean their rooms and make their beds. We have our teens do the dishes, clean their baths, and do their own laundry because they have to learn how to do such things irl. We do have a cleaning service so their tasks aren't too harsh.

Unsupervised play? Well, when they were 3-4 they were allowed to be unsupervised in their rooms. Now 5 y/o plays unsupervised in all parts of the house and yard except near the pool. Obviously, so do our teens....

Sleep through the night? 6 to 9 months with our 4. As an added bonus, once they were potty trained none of my 4 have ever wet the bed. They were all 3 when they were potty trained which may have made the difference.

That is pretty weird, huh? The personal weird factor in John's birth date also involves his birth time (2:37p, Central European Standard Time). he was born at Nurnberg Army Hospital, so the time on his birth cert is listed in military time, 1437--that particular numeric code is one with which my ex used to sign his love notes to me. 143 for I love you. 7, he claimed, stood for "honest" and I was tactless enough to point out that "honest" has 6 letters, not 7. But it was our code and the response was always 23 (me too). So John was born at I love you, honest, on the me too-th of September ;)

sigh...didn't keep us together...owing in no small part to the fact that I was *hardly* the only "love" on whom that code was bestowed, but it's still kinda sweet in retrospect.

LOL. No, I know the boys are well within the standard deviation, I was just curious the day I started this poll.

And also, when your kids are so little, like mine, milestones and issues seem so huge. I was just hoping that some moms of older kids could help me put my issues into perspective.
