This is my attempt at fluff.  Sorry in advance if it's not fluffy enough.

1) What's the biggest event (Work, Social, Volunteef) you have ever organized? Do you like creating/hosting events, or would you rather just be an attendee?

2). What's the biggest home improvement kind of project you've ever attempted?  How did it go?

3). Are you crafty?  Are you working on a project right now?  Tell us about it!

4)  What are you reading?

Happy President's Day Laughing

1) What's the biggest event (Work, Social, Volunteef) you have ever organized?

Probably the vacation I am currently putting together. It is like a second job.

Do you like creating/hosting events, or would you rather just be an attendee?

It depends on what it is but I love hosting parties but then sometimes, I just like going and being the guest.

2). What's the biggest home improvement kind of project you've ever attempted?  How did it go?

Gutting our kitchen as everything else done in the home was quicker and didn't affect day to day life. It was worth every second and every penny.

3). Are you crafty?  Are you working on a project right now?  Tell us about it!

Nope. I need to re-cover our dining room chairs and I am afraid to do that lol.

4)  What are you reading?

This thread of course.

1. I do not think that I have ever really organized anyhthing on my own aside from a small social event at my home.  I usuallly fall into the helper role.

2.  If you are talking about where I actually did the work that is pretty much limited to painting both interior and exterior.   On the lawn work side my biggest project was when we lved in Florida I had a truckload of  dirt delivered which I leveled and plugged.

3.  No. I used to crosstitch but my old eyes cannnot handle it.

4.  Just started reading a baseball book.  By a long time Astros announcer.

Conference in Vegas for 1800. My boss and I contracted the meeting space, meals, hotel rooms, and planned the conference agenda. We did that for several years until our funding got cut.

2). What's the biggest home improvement kind of project you've ever attempted?  How did it go?

I am not handy, probably just painting walls.

3). Are you crafty?  Are you working on a project right now?  Tell us about it!

Not crafty at all. I do knit on occasion

4)  What are you reading?

I will be reading Michio Kaku's Future of the mind when it comes out next week. My daughter's current college major is neuroscience, and this seems like a good book to learn about it.

1) What's the biggest event (Work, Social, Volunteef) you have ever organized? Do you like creating/hosting events, or would you rather just be an attendee? -- working it right now. I'm the program chair for our regional professional development meeting in May.  Approximately 175 attendees, 33+ concurrent sessions, 4 workshops, 2 evening events, and more.  I do enjoy this side of things - although something this large should only be a once every 10 years or so event! lol  I've been on the program committee for 4 of our previous meetings. I've also organized two much smaller conferences - 80 or so attendees with 8-10 speakers and no real events.  It's fun and interesting, and it has definitely aided my professional growth. But it is a lot of hard work.

2). What's the biggest home improvement kind of project you've ever attempted?  How did it go?   -- Xh and laid a laminate floor in our first house.  And we built an outdoor play structure for the kids.  End results were great - even though we had our fair share of arguments while doing it.

3). Are you crafty?  Are you working on a project right now?  Tell us about it! -- Not crafty at all.

4)  What are you reading? -- The Bedlam Detective by Stephen Gallagher

1) What's the biggest event (Work, Social, Volunteef) you have ever organized? Do you like creating/hosting events, or would you rather just be an attendee?

Probably my 30-year high school reunion.I think I prefer hosting.

2). What's the biggest home improvement kind of project you've ever attempted?  How did it go?

It wasn't at my house.  I helped GAB renovate his unfinished basement into a den, office, bedroom, bathroom, laundry and storage room,  My biggest participation was with the cottage-y ceiling in the bedroom.  I had hand surgery right after that, so I ended up supervising a lot of the rest.  :)

3). Are you crafty?  Are you working on a project right now?  Tell us about it!

Yes, I am but I am not working on anything right now.  I have two afghans that I started crocheting for my nieces but had to put down when my hands were giving me trouble.  Someday I'll pick those back up.

4)  What are you reading?

I have been in a reading slump of late and am trying to fix that.  I'm currently reading Who's Who in Hell, which is kind of meh.  I haven't started it yet, but last night I picked up a book about the Cold War.  I know nothing about it yet (totally judged it by its cover.)  I also just got A Map of the World from my friend's Little Library.

1. I've only organized social events: baby showers, milestone birthday parties, bachelorette parties, things like that. I would rather just be an attendee, or in all honesty, I'd rather just send a gift and my best regards.

2. Replacing the plumbing stack/hot water heater, probably.

3. Not really. A few years ago while working as a call center representative, I crocheted to keep my hands busy in between calls. I made a pile of blankets, but that's it.

4. I am slowly but surely working my way through Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States," which is a great companion to the course that I am taking on immigration currently. I have a pile of other Zinn reading to do. I've also promised myself that I'll make a serious study of everything that Robert Reich has ever written.

I'm having a tough time fitting in fiction these days. I have Hugh Howey's "Sand" omnibus version and Margaret Atwood's newest series ("MaddAddam") tempting me from my kindle. I have a difficult time reading fiction slowly over time, so I tend not to start reading something if I don't have a day or two to dedicate to it.

1.  SavCal cracked me up because I am organizing a conference right now that will have about 200 attendees.  It's stressful.  Our keynote speaker, who is coming in from Australia, just put us on alert that she might not be able to attend because her 88 year old father has been put into intensive care (in Egypt) with a heart valve infection.   Do you know how hard it is to persuade someone to be on standby to deliver a keynote address to two hundred people on a few day's notice?   The crack up part is that I did this in 2004, which is exactly ten years ago, and at that time I said, "never again."   I've been on the program committee of conferences a lot, but that is usually just organizing the sessions or something.  The local arrangements part is not my forte.

2.  We re-did the house we are living in now, including tearing down some walls and raising some ceilings, when we moved in in 2000.   I am slowly turning the boys' old bedrooms into (a) a home office, and (b) a guest room.  We have some other work we need to do, but I keep finding a reason to put it off.

3.  I am kind of crafty but not very good at it.  I go through periods when I knit, crochet, or do patchwork quilting.  I am a scrapbooker.  Right now I am working on a patchwork quilt.  I've been working on it a while, but I will put it up for months at a time and never take it down.  I tend to work on it more in the winter than the summer.

4.  Game of Thrones, at the request demand of DS#2, who is hooked on it and wants someone to discuss it with.

I feel your pain, Bord.

The Vice-Chair/Chair Elect of our region is tasked with planning the spring meeting every year.  When nominations were open last year for Vice-Chair, I had a coworker call me and ask if I'd agree to be nominated. I said no.  I was already in office as the Secretary and had 8 months left on that term.  I also didn't think I was ready to run the conference - was thinking "maybe in another year or two".  Within a few days of nominations being open, I had three more colleagues call and ask to nominate me.  By the time the fourth one asked, I caved.  And I'm glad I did. The timing sucks, since my office has been in flux for about 15 months, but it's been a rewarding experience.  Registration isn't open yet (i'm waiting on our National office to proces the forms), but once it is and people start registering, it will be a relief, because I'll know the money will be flowing in.

1) What's the biggest event (Work, Social, Volunteef) you have ever organized? Do you like creating/hosting events, or would you rather just be an attendee?

I've been a part of several committees that organize events for work, but in fairly small roles.  I prefer to be an attendee, but I imagine I will at some point have to organize a few things for a state organization I'm involved with.  That's a couple years down the line though.

2). What's the biggest home improvement kind of project you've ever attempted?  How did it go?

Just some painting and having the gutters replaced.  It went well.  We have some extensive renovations we'd like to do eventually though.

3). Are you crafty?  Are you working on a project right now?  Tell us about it!

I'm working on knitting a twin sized blanket.  I've knit about 1/6th of the blanket-- I'm hoping I don't lose steam before it gets too warm outside to work on it!  I also have some quilting projects that I'm in the planning stage for.  I ordered fabric last week, and I'm waiting for it to arrive.

4)  What are you reading?

I'm reading Miami Blues by Charles Willeford and I'm listening to Last Night in Twisted River by John Irving.  I haven't read enough of the Willeford book to have an opinion on it yet, but the Irving book is decent.

I love John Irving, but I haven't ready his last few latest.
