The past tense of this verb is "paid" not payed.

That is all.

Ugh, yes! I *hate* "reach out." My DH, who can actually write, still uses that expression.

I thought it was great! When dd was in third grade, I decided it was time for some classics and I started reading Huck Finn to her. Thing is, I had never read it before and had no idea what I was in for. It has a LOT of dialogue written in dialect. So, I was struggling to read this aloud. Finally dd read the rest of it on her own, and I asked her how she was able to understand the dialect (she has not lived in the US since she was 4). She said it was no problem and that it was easier to understand when she read it herself, as opposed to listening to me mangle a Mississippi accent, LOL.

I encountered this for the first time on ivillage messageboards and it makes. me. crazy.

You were "bawling" your eyes out, not "balling" them out, I assure you.

Thank you for that.

I hope you advised your mother to translate each instance of corporate-speak as "horse manure." This is a very general, all-purpose substiture for all of them.

Well, the Greeks do say, "and then they tore each other's eyes out" (which means "and then they had very vigorous and extended sexual intercourse with attendant activities").

Yes, especially when she became convinced that her language skills were somehow lacking. My mother may have many faults and weaknesses, but her language skills, in several languages, are outstanding.

Yes those are the ones that bug me--words that people get almost right but spelled wrong like a similar word. The middle school girls are in a clique, not a click. And the accept/except one, etc.
