Question about visiting the Houston Area

Hey, I know there are several people on the board who are familiar with the Houston area. My kid wants to go to Houston to visit the Johnson Space Center next month. The reviews I have seen of the place are decidedly negative....costs too much, not much to see, staff unfriendly, stuff like that. Anybody actually been? And what else should we see and do in the Houston area in March? I have some interest in the Rothko Chapel and I am sure the kids would like to see the USS Texas....what else? Thanks!

My DH and I went to the Johnson Space Center last summer and we loved it. Did no experience any of the negativity that you mentioned. But then we are two Air Force vets that grew up in the 60/70s so we were really in our element. Our kids may not have enjoyed it as much (either as kids or now as adults). On the cost issue it was just the two of us. I can see that it could get costly for a family.

You are going too early in the year, need to wait until April so you can see the Astros. That is the main reason that we go to Houston.

It's sports dear. Probably baseball.

They pretend to be a major league baseball team now and again.

Thanks! I thought it was astronauts or maybe a special Texas flower, lol.

We like baseball but we have to travel during our spring break....last year we went down to Florida and caught a spring training game, which was a lot of fun!

I haven't been to the Space Center since I was a kid, so I don't remember any specifics, but I did find it interesting. I would highly recommend the Children's Museum of Houston. The weather should be nice in March, so a trip to the Houston Zoo would be fun, too.

I don't know a lot about Houston, but we spent a day there on our way to Galveston a few years ago.

My youngest child will be a week away from his 14th birthday when we visit. Will the Children's Museum have anything of interest for a 14 year old and a 17 year old?
