The "ceremony" (in a church, home, outside, wherever-when you become husband and wife) is, IMO, the most important and what the day is about.

The "reception" (the party no matter where it is at) is the party to celebrate the couple just becoming husband and wife BUT is not as important as the ceremony as itself.

If someone is being invited only to the "reception", the "party" and not the actual "ceremony", the time the couple is being actually wed then they are not actually at the most important part of the day.

Well, that's totally different than what Bord, I and others have said.

Ok, maybe I am not being clear enough....the "ceremony" is the time when you become husband and wife, the I do's, the exhanging of vows. You can NOT have a marriage without that first.

And without the "ceremony" there is NO marriage :0

Just because the ceremony comes first, doesn't mean it's more important.

There are plenty of marriages that didn't have much, if any, ceremony.

Of course, I agree with that. But we are not talking about AFTER the day is over. We were specifically speaking of inviting people to see you get married. There are 2 aspects of the day, the actual "marriage" with vows, rings, etc. and the party "reception" usually afterwards.
