Well as I said before, not everyone can be invited. I have gone to weddings of my sister's friends. She was in the wedding and I knew the bride and groom.
I have never heard of it.

I have heard of it. The person who goes to the wedding but who is not invited to the reception doesn't recieve an invitation saying "come to the wedding but not the reception". They simply go to the wedding sans invite.
Yes, I have come across that, the "twofer" idea. But here people usually only "crash" the ceremony if the wedding is in the cathedral or a similarly large church. IOW, if there are already 500-1000 people there, they may duck inside to gawk a bit. Nobody would throw you out if you crashed a smaller wedding, but it would be considered tacky.
Also, I really can't imagine crashing a ceremony held in a catering hall or similar venue.
This may open a whole other can of worms, but I really don't understand this, and was wondering if you could explain.
The mass that is part of the wedding "counts" as attending church mass so it's a twofer.
What do you mean by it "counts"?
