Some people do find the ceremonies important. Why would anyone think otherwise.

And it is a good thing that you do not feel like debating whether I generally find graduation ceremonies pretentious or not, because I do. Evidently you do not. My husband went to Vietnam to defend your right to hold and articulate any opinion you please....

That's because they ARE babysitting their grandchildren, unless their grandchildren live with them.

Yes, I never understood spending all that money for a silly party. Most people abhor weddings anyway, and wish they didn't have to go. Dh and I got married twice, once at the court house, and once at dd's baptism. Both weddings were extremely low-key.
