My husband did not volunteer. He was drafted. And his brother, with his father the colonel's permission and blessing, burned his draft card. My father was certainly not service elite. He never finished high school, and as my mother was fond of reminding him, never even used an indoor toilet until he went into the army. Please.

Let's just say I lived the experience, have studied the experience, have read more war memoirs than I can count, and have arrived at my conclusions based on a significant body of evidence.

Dear heavens. They aren't arguing over the war.....they were arguing about something else and the tag line (it's in joke among those who understand and have a sense of humor) as a way of saying, "Sorry, buddy, you're wrong." The line can be used to argue about who's the greatest NBA player, or whether Rush Limbaugh is an idiot, or just about anything.

You'll be waiting a long, long time, C-nut, because I never said you said those things.....I said that's what I inferred from your posts and your tone. It's what a lot of people infer. If it's not what you meant to imply, and it bothers you that you are being misunderstood by a significant number of people, you might want to consider refining your communication style. But if it is what you meant, or you don't mind being misunderstood, no problem.

Of course not. I've got much better manners than that! And anyway, in my sub-culture, wedding gifts are sent to the bride's mother -- or whoever is hosting the wedding, long before the ceremony itself.
