You don't know what regalia is for? Regalia is the robe, hat, etc. that graduates wear. At my (and most) institutions, you cannot march in graduation if you aren't wearing it.

And I don't remember how much it cost, this was several years ago; but it was enough to make me say no thanks.

"whatever" meaning, others can do as they choose, but it doesn't really matter much to me.

It is truly awful. At the last one they started up before the dessert and never stopped. At the one prior to that, the estate was in the middle of nowhere and there were busses to take us back to the hotel, but not until 2AM, so we had many, many, many hours of the blaring music. You can't talk to anyone, so you end up just sitting there staring into space.

That only describes a small fraction of the weddings I've been to, though.

Well, why didn't you just go hide in the bathroom and make your own fun? I think that is what is being suggested here as the "mature response."

Do you really want me to believe that saying something is fru fru is an insult?

All the ones I have been to, except my little brother's, have been in large halls/estates with 200-800 guests, a huge buffet and loud, loud music for hours.

I've been to everything from a church basement wedding to a chi-chi country club wedding and everything you can imagine in between. My favorite wedding I've ever attended was super small, in a garden on a sunny summer day, with a champagne, cake and strawberries reception following. Probably my second favorite was also a garden wedding, of a couple who had been together for 15 years, whose recessional was sung by a gospel choir.

I was so poor when I was awarded my MA that when they told me it would be something like 35 dollars to have the diploma printed and mailed to me, I said "No thanks." I never did get a copy of the diploma. And then when I got my PhD, I was in a much better financial situation, but they told me it would be another 40 bucks to have the diploma printed and mailed to me, I thought...why? I have gotten along for five or six years without the MA diploma, do I really need this? And the answer was no. My husband has two PhD diplomas, for which he paid good money, that have sat for thirty some years in a file cabinet.
