Maybe you can explain it to me then since I am so dense. What types of weddings have you been to that there was NO place to "escape" to?

Every wedding I've been to has had a place to which to escape:

WTH? I didn't have to pay for my diploma to be printed and mailed. I had to pay some stupid "graduation evaluation fee" though - which basically bought me a 15 min. appointment with the useless department secretary to verify that I'd met all my graduation requirements. If I was going to pay for that, I'd have liked it to be with a registrar or someone I actually trusted, KWIM?

Anyway, that doesn't matter... I got that diploma... somewhere... hmmm... where IS that thing??!

I always try to get in a dance with the bride at weddings. (That goes over better in some crowds than others, though.)

My brother's wedding was in a barn in a field on a cold night. Being a barn, the bathrooms weren't particularly soundproofed.

It can be quite pricey - especially for masters/PhD, because the stuff is fancier. My undergrad robes were far less expensive, but they also had loaners available for those who could not afford them, which was very helpful for a lot of people.

I've been to a wedding on a boat, and sure enough, the music was loud, and the only place to escape to was the deck where you could hear the music AND put up with the cigarette smoke, or the bathroom. Oh, technically I guess I could have swum to shore, but it was night, the water looked cold, and I was afraid of losing my car keys.

Spare me on the Long Island issue.

That your dd went to a loud wedding at some point in her life & loved it is really irrelevent. And I was not complaining about my dd, not being invited.
