Well, why didn't you just go hide in the bathroom and make your own fun? I think that is what is being suggested here as the "mature response."

Didn't our Moms spend most of our teen years trying to get us to knock that off? ;)

And since you had your sights set on an academic career, that was a smart move, b/c you have to wear it a couple of times a year, right?

are there really 20 of us in this particular thread???? I highly doubt it.

however that's neither here nor there. Again, i post when, where and what I want -- and frequently do so without actually going to the board. So, often when I respond to a post (or like when I waste my time responding to this nonsense), I have NO idea whose responded or not.

and it really is quite amusing (in a sick, train-wreck sort of way) to watch you and forlinis high five each other all around the board, LOL!

I didn't actually go to my own PhD ceremony...I bought the regalia years afterward when it became clear that I was going to be hooding my own PhD students and when it became important to students that I had been close to for me to be at their graduation. I still find graduation ceremonies virtually intolerable, but since there are kids and parents who have paid the bills and filled my classes for years at a time to whom it IS important....I go. On the wall right above my desk I have a frame full of photographs of the students I have "walked with" over the years.

I love lots of things that other people don't. I think it would be kind of weird if I met somebody who loved literally ALL the exact same things I do. This includes dh. We diverge in several places.

One wedding I attended was on a sailboat - no escape possible unless you were a very good swimmer. No escape necessary though, it was a fantastic wedding. The ceremony actually took place on a beautiful beach in Santa Lucia.

I think I'm just a sucker for ceremonial stuff in general, because I don't mind graduations either. All I have to do is hear "Pomp & Circumstance" and I get all teared up.
