The last wedding we were only invited to the reception was one where there was a very small ceremony with only immediate family invited, and then there was a larger reception. I did not think that that was uncommon.

I was taking the definition as it relates to dress (Fussy or showy dress or ornamentation.) and relating it to the entire wedding.

So only wearing a "frou frou" dress makes it a "frou frou" wedding. Gotcha.
Talbotslover's definition of a "frou frou" wedding is much different than yours.

A boat (already mentioned), a facility with only one large room, a larger facility which may have several rooms, but only one room has been rented for the party.

I'm not sure I've ever met a 2 year old who liked loud, bar-like atmospheres.

You asked for my definition of a frou frou dress. A formal wedding with all the trimmings often accompanies a frou frou dress. It is patently obvious that Talbot Lover was using "frou frou wedding" as a metaphor.
