Yep. They will start kindy next fall. The cut off here is August 31st. Ds will be five in Septemeber, so he will start kindy the following year. Some have suggested that we have him tested, so he can start next year, but we aren't in a big hurry. We can start him, and he will be one of the youngest in his class, or we can wait, and he will be one of the oldest. I prefer that he be a little older (I think the real benefit is when they reach highschool).
My kids only started school in September so no big changes so far. We haven't even gotten a report card yet.
DD-seems to be doing well. Will get first report card in a week or so. She has been chosen for select chorus. Does chorus, orchestra, cross country, girl scouts and just tried out for drama and will be trying out for kickline in a couple of months. She is very smart, just needs to little push and needs help focusing.
DS-is doing very well. Mostly 90's and 100's on all his tests. Got 100 on his Math Benchmark test. Will get first report card in a week of so. Right now he is not involved in anything but religion but will either do baseball or soccer in the spring.
I don't really think that it's too big of a deal...a little bit of a challenge for me this year, he is *technically* ready for preschool (he meets many of the standardsfor kindy, now).
what a rotten thing to say at a sleepover, my oldest DD has had to shrug off more name calling than my other DD and she's the one on an IEP, go figure.
good luck. i remember all teh emphasis on kinder in preK too, each one of my kids visited that all over again in kindergarten. i miss those early years, they go so fast!
oooh, that teacher needs some sensitivity training there, that's so not nice!
my 7th grader has come home and told me about some choice words a teacher has used in class before but there are some pretty disruptive, unruly kids in her general ed class there too, sigh.
i love that your DD plays an instrument, not even my oldest who went through 7 years of kindermusik is interested in that..your second grader gets number grades? my DS gets stars, A+, Bs, his
Yeah, we bought her instrument this summer when the rental was due. The store owner only charged us how much we were renting it for as we rented it for 3 years. We got a great deal as it was a brand new instrument when she first started renting it.
No grades on the report card for 2nd grade but grades on tests. He has a spelling test every week and math about every other.

They do numbers here for all elementary grades.
