Sexy Underwear for Teens

I only have boys, so while I have an opinion on this, wanted to see how the moms of teen girls feel about store's such as Victoria's Secret carrying lines of sexy underwear that are for college aged girls, but appeal to a teen audience.  They were recently targeted by moms for their "Bright Young Things" spring break line.  From Time.com:

But should anyone be walking around in undies that declare “Dare You,” “Call Me” or “Feeling Lucky?” like some of the missives printed on the manufacturer’s spring-break inventory? That’s certainly a matter of personal taste — for adults. But for young girls, “This speaks to the idea that girls have a fantasy of being raped, that women on some level are asking for it,” says Dana Udall-Weiner, a Santa Fe, N.M., psychologist who works with girls on body image.

Would you let your teen wear suggestive underwear?  Do you think that teen girls have a right to feel confident and sexy, or are they getting the wrong message from retailers?

"I actually think it looks trashy for anyone of any age to wear any clothing with any words on the butt." -------- LOL, agreed. I also agree with peachy that there is something slightly perverted about grown people putting trashy things on kids. Sometimes you almost get the feeling that mothers put stuff on their little girls because the mothers would like to wear it, but know they shouldn't look THAT trashy.

I actually think it looks trashy for anyone of any age to wear any clothing with any words on the butt.

"How would my daughter know what kind of underwear every other teen is wearing? And wth are you talking about her having "no say in her own underwear"? Again, you aren't making any sense." --------------- She is trying to say that all the other girls are wearing thongs and "come boink me" undies, and you are keeping your daughter from fitting in with the popular girls by insisting on buying her decent underwear.

Oh my Peachy. I guess you don't want to answer the questions. Questions that pertained to the thread you have decided to participate in. lol Have a nice night.

Participating in these discussions does not mean Peachy is morally obligated to indulge your nosey snooping into the underwear preferences of her underage daughter.  And it's more than a little gross for you to keep pressing her on the issue.

They would have to pay if they went to the laundromat Peachy. I don't know, when I didn't have a washer/dryer (renting), I went to a local laundromat every week.

And?

"I do not think young girls SHOULD be wearing sexy underwear as I would not have let my young girl wear it." ----------- Sexy is one thing. I have no problem with sexy by a certain age, nice bras, flirty skirts etc. However, this particular line of underwear is marketed to very young girls, and besides, it is not "sexy," it is completely vulgar and hoochie-mama. I don't understand why vulgarity and bad taste are so often considered OK for kids, often on the very grounds that they are kids, so let them have "fun" or kids like bad taste or whatever justification people give.

"Yeah Jam I didn't realize that the sayings were in the crotch. I was thinking of the ones that are on the butt, even though I don't agree with them for young girls." --------------- How very Levantine of you.

You seriously don't think boys don't see this underwear on at least some girls who wear it?  There are plenty of teenagers having sex so I have to imagine that there are girls wearing this underwear whose boyfriends see them in it.  And there are also plenty of stupid girls who Are texting photos of themselves in this provocative  underwear to boys.

My daughter and her friends do not wear this kind of underwear. How do I know? Because several have gone on vacation with us and I've done their laundry.  As for my own daughter? She has no desire to wear sexy underwear - she prefers seamless cotton panties and padded sports bras. In fact I just bought myself four sports bras last week and she was all excited because she thought they were for her.

What questions pertained to the thread? The ones about MY daughter's underwear?  Did you say that all teen girls are wearing this trashy underwear?
