Will you be doing any small business shopping today?

I will take a walk downtown to see if anything interests me.  DH and I will proababy go for lunch at a local place.

I am putting my outside lights up today and doing my animal reorganizing of the pantry. I have to go to the grocery store and I might stop off at a small locally-owned pet store nearby and stock up on doggie treats.

Unfortunately, probably not. I went back to Kohls to exhange some things and get others. Going to a football game today so I wouldn't consider that a small business.

Yes, I bought new appliances for my rental appt today at a local appliance store, not a chain store, (though I did compare prices and our local store offered the best one). We had lunch at a local non-chain restaurant, and the boys got their haircut at a local stylist.

"Will you be doing any small business shopping today? I will take a walk downtown to see if anything interests me. One of the reasons we live where we live is that the area has really good access to all kinds of shopping and services.

Dh and I just got back from a smallish shopping trip. We didn't really buy much - new sheets for our bed and wrapping paper - but we had a bunch of stuff (two shirts for The Boy, a shirt for The Nephew, some socks and artsy stuff for The Neice, some socks for The Girl, a calendar for my sister) "held" at TJ Maxx under The Girl's name; next weekend is her 20% off weekend (employees typically only get 10% off, but they have a 20% off weekend every 5-6 weeks) so we'll go back and buy it then. Yes, I realize TJ Maxx isn't a small business, but my tax dollars and employee wages stay local.

I didn't do any shopping this weekend, but like many others, I try to buy locally when I can year-round.

Actually, that's not quite how it works. Wink

Umm, yes it is. Sales taxes stay local (city, county and state). Employees of this store all live in the vicinity, so their wages stay local.   I think shopping at the local location of a chain or big box isn't quite as advantageous as shopping at something truly local-owned, but it's way better than shopping out of town or online.
