1. Did you get more snow yesterday or today?

2. What is for lunch?

3. What is your favorite coldcut?

Sorry to hear that sounds a bit odd when one is talking about a love relationship between employer and employee.  I think employer gifts are a great thing, but as an expression of love between employer and employee, also a bit odd, imo.

I give my staff appreciation gifts (small ones) pretty regularly, so a Valentine's gift would just be weird.

Meh....I think it was just something that did at this time of year so they just send around the email saying a Vday gift from the company. Everyone in the company gets it so it is kind of like getting Turkey's for Thanksgiving.

It is not a "I love you" gift lololol. It is one of the 4 "gifts" that we get for the year, Turkey, Christmas Bonus, Fruit and Gift Card for 4th of July (used to be a meat package for your 4th of July bbq but now we just get at $50 Visa Card).

But a gift sent with an email saying it's for Valentine's Day connects it to love, even if it's not intended thay way. And that's weird to me.

I'd like to do more for my staff, but I can't spend Univ funds doing any of it, so anything I do comes out of my own pocket.  With 6 FT staff and one student, it can get expensive. Darnit.

Oh dear. So what about the vday card kids hand out in school? Are they telling their classmates and teachers that they love them too?

Oh well, I guess if the university did it for them, you wouldn't feel so bad. Shrug.

I'm not a fan of the valentine's in school. Seems silly to me. (and I"m so glad I don't need to do that anymore)  But those will usually see "bee mine" or "be my friend" etc.  And from kid to kid is somewhat different in my head than from adult to adult.

What do I feel so bad about????

Well you are in the minority as it happens in schools all over and kids love it. We don't get any "cards" like that from the owner of the company bawhhhaaa...An email saying (something to this affect as I don't ahve the actual email on me) Happy Valentine's Day, we would like to extend our appreciation for all the hard work you to by giving out fruit the week of Valentine's Day. Enjoy

What do I feel so bad about????

You seemed like you feel bad that it is too expensive to get gifts for your employees. My boss doesn't give me this gift, this is from the owners of the company, like it has been for at least the last 19 years I have been with the company.

Actually, any kind of a tangible gift from my employer skeeves me out.  What is this, the Middle Ages?  We don't need to get paid in kind anymore, we're on a cash economy.  Like my work?  Give me a raise.  Or a bonus.  Not a ham, or a turkey, or a box of chocolates.

Oh, no doubt I'm in the minority.  And I was all over it when my kids were that age ... I've changed my view on it over the years. As I've matured into an old fogey.

I don't feel *bad* about it, because I have a pretty good relationship with my staff, despite not being able to do more for them.   I do wish I could do more, but I don't feel BAD about it.   We can't get gifts from our owners - becasue our owners are the taxpayers.
