I'm curious, how old were you, when you first started serving in your community?

I agree very much with you.

I would be hard pressed to think of a worse lesson one could teach one's child about the importance of honoring commitments.

Are you serious? I guess you don't think your kids will get out much at that age, but my babysitting DD goes to parties or dances just about every week. I schedule her services well in advance, to a mutually agreeable schedule, and pay her well as do her other babysitting clients.

She's babysitting both Fri and Sat for us this weekend and the cute boy she has a crush on called her for date this weekend. No worries - they'll meet up after Christmas because they're both busy with family obligations until then.

I can't imagine any late invite that I will make me change my plans...Maybe if dd got a very late, all expenses paid invite to William and Kate's wedding next year, I'd give up a date night with my husband but anything below that scale, not so much.

The first real community service I remember doing was after Freshman year of high school when I started volunteering at the Zoo.
