Here is a SAHM who takes careful budgeting to new heights. It must, of course, be noted that since her DH is military, the family is probably covered in terms of health insurance.

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/how-a-family-of-four-manages-to-live-well-on-just--14-000-per-year-174803218.html

"Wagasky, 28, lives with her her husband, Jason, 31, and their two young children in a three-bedroom family home in Las Vegas, Nevada. While Jason, a member of the U.S. Army, completes his undergraduate studies, the family's only source of income is the $14,000 annual cost of living allowance he receives under the G.I. Bill. Despite all odds, the family has barely any credit card debt, no car payment, and no mortgage to speak of."

[...]

"By the time Wagasky's husband came home from Iraq, they had managed to scrape together the $30,000 they needed for a downpayment on a home.

"But we decided the best option would be not to have a mortgage payment at all," she said. "We found a fixer-upper that didn't have a kitchen ... and we paid cash." "

Regina, just chalk this one up to one of those things that Rosie lacks understanding of.  This is also one of those things that you kind of need to WANT to understand, and it seems that Rosie either lacks the will, or the capability of doing so.

They WOULD choose cable over tithing as a religious person would pick tithing over cable.

Only after it was pointed out that you COULD ... backpedal much?

But why would you even bring up TITHING in the context of someone who isn't religious and doesn't do it? That's like bringing up birth control expense for someone who is infertile...it is a nonissue.

Sorry Rosie, I can't understand this at all.

Poor Rosie had trouble following this thread last night.  She's probably completely lost now!

I'm lost as to the relevancy of what she's posting...

There is no relevance.  But again, that's no surprise.

Well, as they say in St Olaf: "You can lead a herring to water, but you have to walk really fast, or it will die."

You know, I'm not even remotely religious almost to the point of being cynical about it, but even I realize that a Christian's devotion to tithing is not the same as a person's devotion to cable. Unless said cable person has a really really really sick need for tv.
