Here is a SAHM who takes careful budgeting to new heights. It must, of course, be noted that since her DH is military, the family is probably covered in terms of health insurance.

"Wagasky, 28, lives with her her husband, Jason, 31, and their two young children in a three-bedroom family home in Las Vegas, Nevada. While Jason, a member of the U.S. Army, completes his undergraduate studies, the family's only source of income is the $14,000 annual cost of living allowance he receives under the G.I. Bill. Despite all odds, the family has barely any credit card debt, no car payment, and no mortgage to speak of."

"By the time Wagasky's husband came home from Iraq, they had managed to scrape together the $30,000 they needed for a downpayment on a home.
"But we decided the best option would be not to have a mortgage payment at all," she said. "We found a fixer-upper that didn't have a kitchen ... and we paid cash." "

Ahhh, That floods back memories of my swimming years, Our practices + meets were at the college of St.Joe, That was such a big deal to swim at that school! Lol! I hope your daughter is making wonderful memories, She's a great swimmer.
Many of the people I communicate with reguarly aren't on FB at all, or only minimally. so texting is pretty widely used for me. Oh and so many school and activity updates come to me via text (subscribed to Twitter texts).
But I use my phone for email communication as much as if not more than texting and voice. But then, I'm kinda tethered to it workwise ... blech.
But really, I use it more for games and fun than anything, lol.
Soda and dessert for athletes?
PumpkinAngel
Yes, I think we have very different opinions on what athletes need to eat for sporting events. I'm good with that

My phone is for my convenience. It's not for other people's convenience, nor is it a leash, lol. I can access my email from it, and will respond to emergencies, but in general, I will just mark it as unread, and address it when I am at work. I don't give my cell number out generously, b/c I have had people call me at 9:30 at night to talk about business, and while I can (and do) tell people not to call my cell for business, to call my office, I would just rather not deal with it, lol. Mostly I text with my husband and kids. It's quick and easy for reminders, shopping lists, or just the kids letting me know that they've arrived home from school (or to their distination if traveling), etc.
Based on what I have read it is based on the weather, inexperience and lack of communication and planning. Weather is out of one's control but the other three can be easily accounted for with a little bit of time. Age of children really has nothing to do with the conversation, ime. But, I've been doing this whole athletic thing with my kids for much more than a year, so what do I know? LoL.
PumpkinAngel
Yes, backpedalling at its finest. I've been doing the athletic kids/sporting event for years now and it's really all about proper planning and communciation.
