Except my darling little girl. Of course, dd also has a g-g-grandma who took up arms to defend her land against her grabby brother. So, even there, nuttin' to do with nurture, she just took after the feisty line of ladies. Her grandma is also a crack shot.

"checking her look in the mirror" Oh yeah! Dd was 16ms old the first time she pulled that stunt. My mom was visiting, and I had gone to the GAP where I had bought dd a big pile of clothes. I came back and right in the entrance hall, where the mirror was, I got into some conversation with my mom. DD, OTOH, started digging through the pile of new clothes, disappeared to her room (modest even then, lol), came out in a new outfit, went to inspect herself in the mirror, went back to the room, new outfit, back to the mirror and so on. I cracked up. The funniest thing is that at 17, she still looks at herself in the mirror in the exact same way.

at my dad's 80th birthday, we went around the restaurant table we were at and all shared something memorable about our upbringing, each one of us 6 kids had something uniquely different to share about our dad..i think that spoke of the differences among us.

My ODD was 6 yo when I met dh - he was convinced that her outfit changing and mirror checking was her following the example I had set. He had me convinced too. Until we both saw our DD do the same thing, at 1 yo, after having never witnessed me getting dressed once. She started checking herself in the mirror very early. Her first self-directed outfit change came at naptime, where she took of her own pants and put on her Build-a-Bear's shorts. I came in to get them - she smiled big and proudly declared "New Pants!"

Yes still in school - passed the half way mark. It's kicking my butt this semester though, lots of work but I enjoy it.

At least with teens you get breaks. You do not have to supervise them 24/7. I think that was a big part for me, each level of independence made things easier.
