1. When did you get your first computer and what kind was it?

I was an early adopter, 1984 Macintosh.

2. When did you get your first cell phone and how much did it weigh?

1995 when I was a first time parent of an infant, it was huge, about 2.5lbs

3. When did (or will) your child/ren get their first cell phone?

7th grade Christmas presents. My yds will get his first phone this Christmas.

4. When did (or will) your child/ren get their first computer(laptop)?

8th grade graduation present.

5. For the really, really old. When did your get your first typewriter?

I bought one my senior year of highschool, with the money from my first job.

Bonus: What's the best and worst thing about owning a computer?

Best things - So much really useful information available just a click away. A way to connect with old friends geographically away. A way to connect with like minded people virtually.

Worst thing - Sometimes my husband and I IM when we're sitting across the room rather than talking because it's such an ingrained way of communicating in our workplace (we work for the same company).

I got my first cell phone the same year you did, for the same reason, and it probably weighed about the same. It was a Motorola, and the logo looked like a bat, so I called it my bat phone. I remember the first call I made on it, to my boss when I was late for work.

1. I can't remember when I got my first computer, but it was after I married dh, so in the last 16 years. 2. I got my first cell phone about t or 6 years ago. 3. My kids got cell phones when they went to MS (6th grade). 4. My dh bought those "one laptop for all" laptops for the girls when they were in elementary school, if anyone remembers those. They were very basic & didn't cost much, and for every one you bought, you also bought one for a kid in a third-world country. in MS, both girls got regular used laptops that my dh brought home from work. If we ever buy them a new laptop, I imagine it would be a HS graduation present. 5. My first typewriter was a HS graduation present from my parents. It was electric! (I'd been using an old manual typewriter of my parents). I think the best thing about owning a computer is the convenience. The worst thing about it is that it's not really a social activity.

1. When did you get your first computer and what kind was it? A MacPlus that had been retired from the office.

2. When did you get your first cell phone and how much did it weigh? I held off so long that I only started using one about 10 years ago, so it was a "normal" one.

3. When did (or will) your child/ren get their first cell phone? Dd got one about age 12, because by that age she was moving around the city independently a fair amount.

4. When did (or will) your child/ren get their first computer(laptop)? DD got her first laptop around age 11-12.

5. For the really, really old. When did your get your first typewriter? Never had one, since I never learned to type. My mother had one, because she worked as a secretary in her youth. We thought it was very cool.

Yes, all our laptops are used ones as well, as are the rest of our computers. At one point dd got fed up with her cheapo parents and wanted a brand-new one. That she paid for herself.

our FIRST computer was the desk top we still have, its as slow as mollasses and we are retiring it this christmas for a new one that will cost us about 400.00 (unlike the thousand dollars we paid for this 10+ years ago, Lol).

1. When did you get your first computer and what kind was it? My dad sold his sports car when I was 5 (1987) to buy a Tandy 1000.

2. When did you get your first cell phone and how much did it weigh?

I got my first cell phone in 2003 or so. I have no idea how much it weighed, but not too ridiculously much.

3. When did (or will) your child/ren get their first cell phone?

Probably once they are responsible for getting themselves to and from school (middle school), but I have a long time to decide.

4. When did (or will) your child/ren get their first computer(laptop)?

I imagine that they will get our hand-me-downs once they need to use the computer for homework on a regular basis. I think a new laptop of their own would be a good high school graduation present.

5. For the really, really old. When did your get your first typewriter?

Well, I'm not really, really old ;) But, when I was filling out college applications it was still pretty difficult to fill information on a form using the computer, so my parents bought a typewriter for me to use when I was a junior in high school.

Bonus: What's the best and worst thing about owning a computer?

The best thing is that I can use it all the time to look up whatever I want. The worst thing is that I can use it all the time to look up whatever I want.
