1. When did you get your first computer and what kind was it?

2. When did you get your first cell phone and how much did it weigh?

3. When did (or will) your child/ren get their first cell phone?

4. When did (or will) your child/ren get their first computer(laptop)?

5. For the really, really old. When did your get your first typewriter?

Bonus: What's the best and worst thing about owning a computer?

My daughter does the majority of her homework in her room too, but when she needs to get online, she uses the computer in our living room. It's open to the kitchen, but enough away from the noise that it's not distracting. My other three kids all prefer to do their homework at the kitchen table or in the family room so no need to be up in their bedrooms with a computer. My younge3r kids don't really study from their textbooks yet though - we only use the only use the online textbooks for their other resources - like practice tests, etc. They have class notes and study guides or a physical textbook for reference.

I had a boyfriend who sold Tandy computers back in 1985-6 . . . I sure couldn't remember the name of them though--until I read your post..

I had a cousin that posted on message boards, before most of us understood what they are. She would tell me all about it, and how cool it was. I thought she was nuts.

The Kids' computers, and dh's desktops (yes, plural) are in the rec room. It is public space, but away from the main hubbub of the house, so homework can be done there.

It's funny and reminds me of that friend I had who maintained an entire floor of main frames in a huge company. Over in the corner of this vast, dark, cold space he had a makeshift desk (classic computer nerd) on which sat one of the early Macs. One night after dinner, he took us there to show us something amazing, namely an email he had received from another computer. This must have been around '88.
