The Remember When thread has me thinking about myself when I first came to iVillage and how much things have changed since then.  Anybody else want to play?

I came to iVillage in the summer of 2000.  I was 36 and working as HR Manager for an internationally-owned manufacturing company  I was divorced with a 6 1/2-yr-old disabled son, and my ex had committed suicide a few months before.  This was actually the event that led me to iVillage in the first place.  I was one of those "Have to work" moms and was told by several when I first came here that I had no place in this debate because I had no choice.

Now, I'm 51 and my son is 21.  For the past tnot-quite-ten years I've worked as the business manager for a small architecture firm.  Eight years ago, I also absorbed the marketing coordinator's position.  The job(s) and the company have been overwhelmingly stressful at times but have changed greatly over the past few years, due to economic/market and ownership changes.  I am now in a very comfortable position within the company.  I also no longer really have to work.  My son is now in a position to offer to take care of things if I want to quit and take some time to figure out what I want to do.  That offer has led me to the realization that despite the stress, long hours (which really isn't an issue anymore anyway) and frustration, I am already doing what I want to do.  I'll be sticking around there.

For a graphic artist, your tech/photo skills SUCK.

I am not a graphic artist.

I guess you KNEW your dh was stealing, then?

No, no, it's never Ginger's fault for anything and I imagine it's not her dh's fault for stealing, either.  Frankly, I'm kind of surprised she hasn't found a way to blame his thefts on us.

Don't be sad, really. I LOVE going home for lunch and having some "me" time. Actually tomorrow we are having our Christmas grab bag/chinese food luncheon (oh, we decided on a money tree for our boss as one of the girls is very creative and is making it for us) so I will be eating with friends tomorrow.

Ginger is about 15 years too old to be a hooker.

So you're giving your boss CASH for Christmas? That is, IMO, very odd.

All you have to do is comment using a common hashtag and everyone else who's ever used that hashtag will have access to your name.

Pretty sad that Ginger, who claims to be an expert in everything, knows so little about the subject in which she's claiming to be majoriing in--stalking the husbands of the women on this board.

And for the record, yet another reason to be happy to be unmarried. :D
