Today's beautiful early morning walk by Simmons Pond got me thinking of Thoreau's Walden. It won't happen again. On to today's fluff:

 • 1. Walk in the woods or a drive in the country?

 2. Ocean or lake front living?

 3. Favorite American author, any era, any genre?

 4. Favorite reality TV show, candid, competitive or how-to?

Chestnut, years ago (like probably 20) my brother prosecuted a very high profile murder case in RI - a entire family had been killed - and it was a case that took him over a year to close and he said the highest compliment he got was after the trial the sister of one of the victims said to him "you are just like Gregory Peck in To Kill a Mockingbird.."

Marla-- I am such a HUGE Lindy West fan! I am amazed at the grace she has handled herself with after the fall out on her piece about sexism in comedy writing -- she's amazing. Absolutely amazing.

I WISH you could be at my theater in October when we have Bill Maher here!

Maher's been in my neck of the woods three times in the last year and each time we've had a schedule conflict and couldn't catch his live show. I don't agree with everything the man says, but he's so quick-witted and sarcastic and terrible that he gets my full and undivided attention when he opens that little ugly mouth of his! I love him, I just love him.

 • 1. Walk in the woods or a drive in the country? Walk, always. I get car sick easily, so driving is never a pleasure fo rme.

 2. Ocean or lake front living? Ocean, always. I decided many years ago that I can't live away from the ocean. Lakes are pretty, I grew up on one, but it is not the ocean.

 3. Favorite American author, any era, any genre? Henry James. He may be a bit heavy at times, but he draws such a vivid portrait, not just of the lady, but of American society of his time.

 4. Favorite reality TV show, candid, competitive or how-to? I watched top chef in the gym today, which was OK, because of the food and because of Padma. But I am not fond of the genre.

Padma is my least favorite part of the show.

"Hunter S. Thompson" ---------- He was something akin to a god to us, when we were in HS.

Bea, the story of your brother made me think of another AMerican writer I really love - Truman Capote. "In Cold Blood" is as crisp as a Hopper painting.

" I don't agree with everything the man says, but he's so quick-witted and sarcastic and terrible that he gets my full and undivided attention when he opens that little ugly mouth of his!" -------------- Completely agree. In fact, some things I disagree with him on in the extreme, but he is funny and he talks about stuff that matters. Although what really won my heart was his ongoing skits about Bristol Palin's babby daddy.

"Padma is my least favorite part of the show." ------------ Really? I thought it was so refreshing that she is fairly quiet, and she is very pretty.

1. Drive in the country

2. Long term, lake side...vacation? Ocean

3. Eh, I have to honestly say, I am not familiar with authors. I will pick up a book and read it, and likely forget who the author was within an hour, lol.

4. The Voice
