Today's beautiful early morning walk by Simmons Pond got me thinking of Thoreau's Walden. It won't happen again. On to today's fluff:

  •   1. Walk in the woods or a drive in the country?

  2. Ocean or lake front living?

  3. Favorite American author, any era, any genre?

  4. Favorite reality TV show, candid, competitive or how-to?

Drive in the country

Neither..   Home insurance is ridiculously high on/near the water.

I am pretty much a non-fiction reader, I like to read about people from the person's themselves aka autobiographies; I do like some of Mave Binchy.

America's Got Talent, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy.

  • Definitely a walk in the woods, I dispise driving except as a means to an end.

  2. Ocean or lake front living?

I love the beach, but I don't have a lot of experience with lakes though I'm sure I like too.

  3. Favorite American author, any era, any genre?

Too hard to pick one, Poe, Fitzgerald (Great Gatsby and short stories only), and Salinger rise to the top of my list.

  4. Favorite reality TV show, candid, competitive or how-to?

My daughter and I adore Chopped - we watched a DVR'd marathon with last night. My boys like it in much smaller doses.

  • Walk in the woods or a drive in the country?
  • I love country drives-- we do them all the time - I even wrote a blog post about our drives called "Feet on the Dashboard" - we have so much fun

  2. Ocean or lake front living? I grew up on an island so I have to say Ocean front living is my dream.. hoping to end up back in Maine on the water once the girl is safely launched.

  3. Favorite American author, any era, any genre? Louise May Alcott shaped me, I read Little Women for the firts time when I was around 10 and thought 'oh my God, I'm Jo..."   but I can't name just one.. love the sprawling novels of Tom Wolfe..  and love the work of my NH poets Jane Kenyon and Donald Hall - poetry that makes me hold my chest b/c it physically hurts sometimes when I read their work.

  4. Favorite reality TV show, candid, competitive or how-to? Always Project Runway -- the talent amazes me, and there are always such fabulous characters every season plus.. Tim. Gunn.   'nuff said.

1. Walk in the woods.  Or bike either place :)  Driving is too fast to be conducive to a zen state :)

2. Lake front.  I do love the ocean, but my lake front would be on Lake Superior and you don't get too many hurricanes through there :D

3. Karl Hiassen.

4. The Amazing Race.  I like lots of different kinds of reality TV--some pretty awful, some meh and some awesome.  TAR is awesome.

1. Walk in the woods. I love walking! 2. I love being near water, both the ocean and lakes. I'd settle for either, but I think I prefer the ocean. 3. Too many to narrow down! My all-time favorite novel is probably "To Kill a Mockingbird," but I admire so many writers. Steinbeck, Alcott, Twain, E.B. White, Betty Smith..I could go on. 4. I've seen a few episodes of a few reality shows, but I've never been taken with any.

1. Walk in the woods.

2. How about something in between? I love the great lakes. I love the feeling that I get around the open water, I love the grayish tinge the sky takes on. I love feeling small next to the enormous body of water.

3. Hunter S. Thompson. I also love Chuck Palahniuk, Bret Easton Ellis, Pete Hamill, and Stephen King. I adore Kurt Loder's writing and I wish he wrote more than movie reviews currently. My favorite internet writer is Lindy West from Jezebel, though I'm a fan of most of the writing on the Gawker sites.

4. We only really watch one TV show currently: Real Time with Bill Maher. I don't mind watching Mythbusters with ds. Top Gear once in a great while.

My daughter and son both read it the same summer and we had some great discussions. We eventually watched the Gregory Peck movie together and we really enjoyed that too! It was about the best adaption of a book to movie that I've ever seen done, IMO.

Marla-- I am such a HUGE Lindy West fan!  I am amazed at the grace she has handled herself with after the fall out on her piece about sexism in comedy writing -- she's amazing.  Absolutely amazing.

I WISH you could be at my theater in October when we have Bill Maher here!
