I had an SD card that stopped "speaking" to my computer, but I found I was able to open the card like it was a separate disk drive and simply copy files over to the computer that way (rather than using one of the photo loading programs).  It was annoying and I stopped using the card once the pictures were downloaded, but the files themselves were still accessible.

Just load the card and then go to "computer" and the disk should show up under "Devices with Removable Storage".

Sorry.  I wasn't thinking that there might not be a card drive.  Time for a new laptop? ;)

If you're really desperate, you can buy a usb sd card reader doo-hickey. Like this one: http://www.amazon.com/IOGEAR-Pocket-Memory-Reader-GFR209/dp/B001AW8W7A/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1372376829&sr=8-5&keywords=sd+card+reader Make sure it reads your kind of sd card first though! This is the one we have at work, and I think it reads most standard cards.

I responded because you said you find it funny that's it's popular '"here."  You can think whatever you want is funny.  I don't understand why, so I asked.  Why post here if you find it offensive, odd, strange (whatever word you actually feel) that people ask questions 'here."

Spring, Jam was the one who started commenting on other's reading preferences.  Laughing at what another person likes to read & mentioning that you don't like that, is akin to mocking.  Maybe even ridiculing.  Talk to her.
