No I'll admit they might be quite friendly & nice now. But there are also some people out there just trying to get as many friends as possible. And some who are looking for contacts or are just nosy.

I agree that some are just trying to get "notches on their belts" in how many friends they have. I am friends with a neighbor from my teen age years who I have not seen in 26 years. She is about 10 years younger than I am so was not a friend of mine but of my younger sister. Shortly after I connected with her I received friend requests from her two DDs (late teens or early 20's). I really do not think that those girls were interested in becoming friends with a 51 year old woman who they have never met. I think they were just looking for another notch so ignored their request.

Luckily I have never had to do the "do I know you" because when I have gotten requests from "way back when" they add a message, "remember me from XXX". Even though I have never met these girls I did know who they were because of their mom's posts.

I also find it dull much of the time. I haven't friended my kids, but they are required to show me their pages with no advance notice. So far, they've shown themselves to be trustworthy, but I don't take anything for granted.

My daughter finds FB a burden but does use it to keep up with friends in other high schools. One of her buddies got shipped off to boarding school, so FB is their main connection right now. My son just uses it to chat with his nerdy gaming friends.

I had about half that and was very disappointed when I went to my 20th reunion and so many turned out to be attorneys. So many had intended to go the Medical school route or research PhD route. So many great scientific minds wasted on the law. Some, of course, are doing great things in the Law, but we don't need so many.

Yes I've seen a couple that feel/sound like that.
