Time off for the holidays?

How much time do you get off for the holidays?

I only get the actual holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years) off as holidays but am taking the day after Thanksiving and from Christmas eve though the end of the year as vacation time.

For DH the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas though the end of the year are all holiday. Whether or not he has worked them has depended on work load. In a previous position they have needed 24/7 coverage so in that he has worked from half to all of it. In the position he is in now he will probably not work any of it.

DD3 is off school three days for Thanksiving and from December 19-January 6st

DD2 is also off three days for Thanksgiving. Her last exam is on December 12 but she is scheduled to work where she goes to college through December 16. I think she goes back on January 14th.

DD1, also off three days for Thanksgiving and her last exam is on December 15th. She attends the same college as DD2 so will also go back January 14th. She will be working over her breaks at her weekend job.

Good question. our company gives us thanksgiving and christmas days off only. in my particular department at work, they have what they call the "unit calendar" which encompasses the whole dept and is done by seniority with the company. it is mainly for three "hot" weeks a year which are defined as Fourth of July week, Thanksgiving week and Christmas week. we are allowed to choose one providing they havent been taken. they only allow a certain percentage of the unit to be out those weeks, so if the most senior employees grab them first, the newer ones are out of luck. this is the first year since ive been in the dept i am getting anything around christmas. i got the three days before christmas, but have to work the day after(which is no biggy imo). in addition i took 1/2 of wednesday dec17th, and the 18th and 19th off. ds2 has a swim meet the 18th against my older kids' high school where they attended, and dd will be home for it, so we will go to that and then head north on the 19th. we will come back either tues or wed before christmas, as our ds1 is coming up from florida. my dd was a diver, so she knows a lot of kids on the other swim team.

i dont get anything at thanksgiving. dd will still be in spain, and ds1 will probably not be able to come up, but my parents are coming down, so it wont be too much of a bummer. i asked dd if she has to go to school on thanksgiving(which i assumed she would) and she said yes, but they have a big dinner for the american kids that evening, so she isnt too sad about it. shes just happy she will be home for christmas.

as for dh. he works for the same company i do, but his dept isnt as strict on how many people take time off, as i am in production, and hes not, so hes off all the days i am.

it will be a good christmas this year and we are all really excited about it.

I get Thanksgiving and the day after off and paid. I also get Christmas Eve, Christmas and the day after off and paid. It is a really great benefit for working in county government.

DS gets the day before Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving off. For Christmas, he Dec. 22 through Jan.5 out of school. Lucky Ducky.

Usually just the day. I work fri/sat nights, so I usually work the day after thanksgiving. This year I'll work the day after Xmas since that is a friday too. If I ask for the day off after a holiday, I could most likely get it-those are slow days in the restaurant biz anyway. New Years is a big party, and I actually like to work. I make a ton of money, and dh and I never really do anything for new years anyway. And its a lot of fun-crazy but fun, LOL!

I don't get Thanksgiving off for obvious reasons :-). But the Christmas holidays are always a kind of mess to figure out: official holidays are Christmas eve, day and day after; New Year's eve and day; and three kings day. But the company dh and I work for throw in a few extra days off, so some years taking just 1-2 days as holidays gets you two full weeks. This year if we take off 5 days total (scattered here and there) we get three full weeks off....since I have a lot of holidays I have to get rid of before the end of the fiscal year (april), I'll probably take off the 5 days. Ds's school gets nearly that much as well this year, I think he will start back two days before my holidays end. Dd will stay at home the whole 3 weeks. Spring is much better for official holidays than fall: good friday and easter monday are always national holidays; 1st of May, Christ ascension day, Mary ascension day, one other religious holiday in may, then midsummer at the end of June. If any of these holidays fall on a thursday or tues, the company gives off the monday or friday. This year, that meant 4 4-day weekends between April and June :-).

>>>How much time do you get off for the holidays?

---

Since we run our own business & the biggest season for us is the winter holiday season, so pretty much no time. We take Thanksgiving, Christmas, & New Years day "off" (as much as we can) but that's about it. Our families live hundreds of miles away, so we don't have the time to travel on ThnxG or Xmas. We look forward to January, when we can vacation...and then dream about December in August & September. :)

I get Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. I'd love to have some time off in there but it will have to wait for a year when I have some vacation time. Being new on the job sucks.

Last year I was in the same situation, though, and ended up having the whole week in between Christmas & NY off...because Joel ended up being hospitalized. THis year I'll just go to work, thank you. ;-)
