Matt Lauer said on the Today show that Hostess snacks were a part of his childhood, and that he's not the only person to be upset about Hostess declaring bankruptsy:

I think if companies are going to make junk food they should make it without qualms. I don't see Ben and Jerry declaring bankruptcy. I don't see Hershey going out of business. If you've got a good thing going, go with it! I don't want a healthy snack cake - I want a delicious snack cake. Hostess was poorly run and apparently failed. Hopefully it's bought out by someone who knows to take it back to the basics - get rid of the healthy junk and stick to what you're good at. REAL junk!
interesting, i wouldn't know about that but i have seen snack lines over the years introduce lower fat, fat free to their products in hopes of making them look healthier or more diet friendly, i think those strategies backfired.
every so often my kids go grocery shopping with me, yesterday my kid did and he grabbed a box of those hostess cupcakes, i would never buy those if my kid wasn't with me, Lol.
Twinkies I don't care about but don't get rid of those chocolate Hostess Cupcakes with the cream filling. I love those things. I only allow myself to have them about twice a year but I really enjoy every bite.
Don't like them, don't buy them.

LOL, for sure dd has never had one that I gave her. I can't really imagine a situation in which that would happen, and if it did, she would probably give ME a lecture about the evils of junk food. She gave me a hard enough time about the chocolate chip cookies I would buy once in a blue moon.
They have been around forever and should stay.
I don't think my kids have ever had them either, and they are 15 and 19!
