Also, just because you didn't grow up poor doesn't mean services do exist, Jambles. Also, water comes in a new flavor now: Wet. Also, which Chapstick is the one you eat with?

<I believe there are two directions addicts go, They seek help and they get it or they deny problems exist to begin with>

If this is your understanding, then you know nothing about addicts. Many deny the need for help, because they are addicts and that is their choice. Many want help are are denied the services they need because they can not afford them. Many get help and relapse because the addiction is powerful and recovery support is inadequate.

The rich get premium support. The insured get some support. The poor are sol. Have I "shared" enough?

<<No, I know that Bord but if you stay up to date with celebrities and their "addictions" and their "punishments", many of them just buy their way out of their punishments and some never really get help. >>

Why would that be something someone would want to stay up to date on?  Really, what a strange hobby.

<<I don't know if addicts "never really get help" is true. What I've heard is that recovery is not a destination but a journey, RecoverING is a life long process that entails all those things you mention. But go ahead and feed me the speech that there isn't enough help out there for addicts or others with pressing mental issues.>>

Are you actually claiming that there is enough help out there for addicts or others with pressing mental issues?

Excuse me? Growing up poor means your views are "foggy?" That has got to be the most bigoted statement I have read in fifteen years in this board. Congratulations on reaching a new low.

I was thinking the same thing...

Jambles delusions feed into a nice little narrative about how there is so much help available for everyone that if you remain poor, or addicted, it MUST be because you have a character flaw. And of course if you've never ever been poor, you don't have that particular character flaw. Wealth becomes a sign of moral superiority.

Well and circle back to a previous debate about marriage equality and claiming there were no benefits to being married as a sahp.  Wow, not a foot in the real world at all.

"I beg to differ about how limited you think services are, Maybe it comes down to real life experiences - living in a lower socio-economic area exposes me to a lot of things, Even in a small town there are numerous services, " ------- Great! So call those services, as Marla suggested, and see how long the wait is to get a place in rehab.
